It is always better to have a letter or your prescription just in case. I've rarely been checked, but much safer to have something with you if your MTX is injections.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I have been a member of this group for months (my husband was diagnosed with an aggressive RA last year). I find reading the posts very useful. Thank you again.

I take what I need for the trip only in the original box with a prescription copy in my hand luggage- no problems experiences yet!

Enjoy your hols

Thank you Ali. We had been wondering if it could go in the hand luggage. Do you take the sharps box too or just bring it back to dispose at home?

I live in Mallorca most of the year. I have taken Metaject in hand luggage through the airport's several times with no problems but I do carry prescriptions with me. Also I am usually in a wheelchair "special assistance" so maybe that helps. Don't forget your EHIC and go to your local PAC (usually open 24/7) if in need. Have a great holiday.

Thank you so much Madrugada.

I dream of moving to warmer climates.More so when I see the pain and suffering during the cold months he goes through.

If it's injections your husband is prescribed this from the Metoject UK site

Metoject® should be stored at room temperature. However, if the room temperature rises above 25°C, then store in a cooler, dry place or in a fridge (minimum temperature 2°C).

When flying, Metoject® must always be carried in your hand luggage. If required by the airline, ask your doctor for a letter confirming you are on this prescribed medication.

If you need any vaccinations before travelling, please check with your nurse FIRST

If you develop diarrhoea and or/vomiting whilst on holiday, stop taking Metoject® and seek medical advice

For further travel advice, speak to your GP, nurse or pharmacist

Even though it gives specific temps I never refrigerated my injections when I lived in Spain, as recommended I kept it in a drawer in the kitchen, the room with the least sunlight. Have a lovely time, take care for the first few days particularly if this is the first time abroad since being on MTX, it can cause skin sensitivity.

Sorry mine is tablet form not injections but my partner is insulin diabetic and either takes a travel mini sharps box (get from Dr) or failing that puts each needle back into its original lid so that it can’t hurt anyone, wraps it in tissue and disposes of it that way - but best bet is get a mini sharps box if you can.

I thought I'd just pop it back in its original carton. Didn't know about mini sharps box will defo find out about that specially as the methotrexate jabs are toxic waste so probably easier to just bring back with you than try to get rid of abroad? Any thoughts? M x

The nurse I saw the other day said to ask for a letter if going abroad with metoject. Something about it not going into the hold, but in hand luggage.

If it were me I'd get a letter for all drugs! You never know.

No need to take your own sharps bin - If you take the used metojet pen into a chemist abroad they will dispose of it for you.

I take my methotrexate in hand baggage with a letter from my Dr. As they are metajet pens I take a plastic lidded box to bring them home in x

Hi, yes I had to have a letter because the injection of MXT can’t go into the hold or through the X-ray machine, I was going to Tenerife, so handed the injection over to be checked with the letter, all was well.
