Has anyone had any experience of being unable to make a fist not because of joints like when my knuckles swell... this is different, is like a wave of nerve pain, like someone is stabbing a knife in my palm and wrist feels like it’s broken (it isn’t btw lol) pain shots in waves up to elbow and all I can do is cry and try to get comfy which is impossible 😩
This is 3rd time it happened and it’s the 2nd time in this hand, it seems to last one night and I get no sleep then it slowly goes off, like this afternoon I’m slowly being able to make more of a fist but it still feels like something in palm prevents me.
I have been recently diagnosed with RA and been given hydroxychlorquine or however u spell it but I am starting it after Easter

It's possible that your wrists are inflammed, so the internal swelling is pressing on nerves causing problems. Often it's pins and needles and tingling, but can be extremely painful. Talk to your doctors about it next time you see one.
Thank you for replying, it is extremely painful, the first time it happened I took myself to accident and emergency at hospital , they x-rayed me and said No obvious problems go see your regular doctor.
My usual wrist pain (and other joints) is like just one bony bump feels stiff and bruised or achy but this is off the pain scale for me shooting right up to my elbow, imagine waking up with a leg cramp, it’s like that but I’m my palm, wrist and shoots sharp up to elbow.
Thanks again hopefully once I start my meds I can feel a little better within a few months.
It can be off the scale....so sympathy. Currently I have shoulder problems and the nerve pain can run from shoulder right down to finger tips. It's horrid. But hopefully the hydroxychloroquine will calm the inflammation down.
You have my sympathy! I've recently been having problems with what appears to be nerve pain in the back of my hand....short sharp stabbing pains running from wrist to knuckles. Guess I can be thankful they're not shooting half way up my arm like yours are, and only happen when my hand/wrist is in certain postures..for want of a better word. I have some small lumps, possibly pockets of fluid, just below the wrist which are very probably linked to the pains. I should be starting new medication soon so hope that will put a stop to them.
You have my sympathy as well. had terrible pain with both my Carpal Tunnel hands prior to being diagnosed. They actually led toy diagnosis. Anyone else whom I spoke with about CT simply described the pins and needles. I had that, put also the off the roof pain you are speaking of. I had Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery on both hands and it was almost miraculous. Perhaps you could get a steroid injection to hold you off until your RA meds have time to kick in? Might be worth checking into. Prayers for relief and hugs
had similar but from ankles up to knees 2015; cdn't walk, elephant feet etc etc. twas inflammation from newly diagnosed RA, treated in hospital x 2wks but got me walking again. bed rest and ankle injections got me going again but twas sooo sore. alert yr rheumy/ gp asap. wishing u betr. x
I have this problem sometimes - from shoulders right into knuckles via elbows and outer wrists. Ulnar or radial nerve entrapment perhaps? Like funny bone pain or electric shock. It’s awful so you have my sympathy too.
Thank you all for your comments, I’ve just started my hydroxycholoquinine -spelling probably wrong again😊 this morning, and feel so anxious! I never take many pills as a rule, just ibroprofen. Hoping for not too many side effects, we shall see 😬
Sorry to hear so many of you have similar pains, it’s nice to know I’m not alone but wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
