Foot and ankle pain
There are a lot of joints in the foot. If the pain is on the outside it possibly could be Subtalor joint. I had mine fused 6 months ago. It so far is ok. Can take 18 months to fully fuse,so have to be VERY carful what I do.
I had a sub-talar fusion and it transformed my walking ability from almost none to 12K last week!.
I'm still getting painful feet but it isn't like it was...the orthopaedic surgeon said he would see me in a few years to do the ankles but that they would probably last me another 6-8 years.
My foot surgeon wouldn't give me an ankle replacement, he said I was too young (early 50's) as they only last about 10 years. His Registrar who I saw first suggested I could only be offered a pantalar fusion, but when I saw the top man, he said he wouldn't consider anything other than a replacement. He acknowledged I have RA in all my foot joints but I have been left to wait on painkillers. Over the last year, my ankle has more or less fused completely on it's own and has been slightly less painful but, does restrict my walking ability. I was sent to orthotics, but insoles wouldn't fit inside my shoes and an ankle brace which was the same, too bulky. If I wear lace up trainer style casual shoes it helps support around my ankle and mid foot joints.
Thanks for the reply , mine feels like my ankle is going to collapse as it causes me to walk on the outside of my foot I also been to orthotics and have insoles but don’t seem to do anything fed up of paying a fortune for proper walking boots and wearing them out in 6 month so I just want my ankle in a straight position and not to have the feeling it’s going to collapse on me at any time
