Can anyone tell me how turmeric works with methotrexate and if they have been given the go ahead from their rheumy to take. Also does anyone have a recipe to take turmeric? Alternatively, can anyone suggest an supplement to relieve pain in lieu of cocodamil

Curcumin is the substance in Turmeric that helps to reduce inflammation. Curcumin is what makes turmeric bright orange. Anyways, I buy fresh Turmeric and shred it & add it to salads, place it on vegetables instead of salt, pot roasts, chicken etc. Turmeric is as versatile as Ginger. It is a powerful spice, so beware of how much you place on your veggies. :)

Here is a study. Please remember that it involved rats not humans.

I put turmeric on my eggs in the morning, 1/2 teaspoon is good. Other wise I take the circumin 600mg capsules. It is fine to take with mtx. There are no contraindications.

I have just finished a jar of turmeric capsules. I didn’t notice any difference.

Hi Cacti, yes I have been taking turmeric for approx 3yrs,I take it in capsul form as you’d would have to use masses of powder to get the active ingredient Curcumin I also take piperin capsules to help absorption..my dosage is 2-720mg an 1 -10mg bioperine.

It may not help everyone but I’m sure it has helped me, .

Hope this helps Regards Mike.

I was thinking about taking curcumin capsules, but I asked my rheumy first because the drug information advice warns that some natural supplements may be problematic. She checked with the hospital pharmacist who told her that there have been no studies in terms of whether it interacts with methotrexate or hydroxychloroquine (I take both). On balance, I took this to mean we don't know, so leave well alone, so I've decided not to risk it.

I make my own golden paste and have been on methotrexate injections for 4 years - no issues at all. I add Ceylon cinnamon and ginger to my golden paste and use about twice the water and coconut oil - it’s all to your liking. My dogs get it every day as well. It really helps with arthritis and even helps get rid of fatty tumors and cysts. Taking pills is fine but remember that turmeric needs a fat source to become absorbed so take with food. Otherwise it just passes through. Bioavailability is increased with piperine and the ingredients in golden paste.
