I think you would be better to speak with your doctor, we're not qualified to give medical advice. If it's any help an elevated ESR could be caused by any number of things not always as serious as you're thinking. For instance, it could be a slight infection you're fighting or it's one of the many things we here are tested for, Rheumatoid Diseases, this site is run by the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society in the UK not related to cancer. It's not usually a helpful test on it's own unless it's to monitor an already diagnosed illness or condition so your doctor may have taken others at the same time. I'm sure it's nothing to be overly concerned about, your ESR is only mildly elevated & a common cold could cause it to rise slightly, it can go far higher than 21.

Maybe stay away from health sites, if you don't fully understand & with only having the one test result you may worry yourself for nothing, your doctor is far better placed to help you than the Internet.

My highest ESR was 85. Not a problem.

A raised ESR can be caused by many things, even a simple infection. In a finger nail. The tests for prostate cancer are much more specific so please go and see your doctor straight away if you are worried.

It might be a good idea to visit your GP and arrange a blood test to check your PSA. Even this more specific test is no more than a pointer that someone may have prostate cancer as it to can give elevated results if you have some sort of infection. You will probably be examined at the same time.
