It’s just now starting to feel like winter outside and the colder it gets the more pain I’m in. I can take my pain meds and Aleve an hour later and still hardly be able to get out of bed. But thank god I️ ably have to wait ten more days to see a rheumatologist. Does anyone else have the issue of cold weather causing more flare ups?

I truly hate cold
I find cold damp weather causes me more problems than simply cold. To be honest hate both!

just been on another thread on "cold" - Cold does cause flare ups, in fact keeping warm if you have medical conditions is a must, Cold can make many illnesses worse...Stay warm and take care.
I’m newly diagnosed (3 weeks) so my MTX is yet to kick in. So this is my first winter/ cold spell. I need to buy gloves and get in the habit of wearing them because I’m in agony when my hands get cold.
Yes, totally.
I'm okay at home cos blankets and duvet keep me cosy, but I can usually feel an ache start in my legs soon after going out. I'm considering getting some thermal leggings actually cos it's mostly my legs that suffer. Washing my hands with cold water can get to my poor little fingers too, but I just power through that cos my tap takes too long to warm up.
I tend to feel better soon after exposure to the cold is gone (my pains are quick to come and go anyway), but I think there may be some level of generally feeling more naff. I guess it's a mix of cold, more bugs going around and early darkness.
I think it's more of an extremes thing tbh, but we just don't get as much extreme heat here. It's after a trip to Portugal in summer that my worst flare happened and if I'm out in heat my fingers swell up pretty quickly.
Cold is something I hear about with loads of things. I think it makes a lot of things worse. You are by no means alone. Sucks cos snow is so pretty.
If I were you I would invest in a bunch of cosy things like scarves, thermal leggings and hand warmers and a nice thick coat.
Absolute agony for me in the winter, as I found out for the first time last year. Being outside felt like I was dressed in blocks of ice from head to toe, then back home I could not get warm, layers & layers of clothing plus a hot water bottle, & a freezing cold flat!
This winter I'm not looking forward to, yesterday we had a heavy snow fall, with more heavy snow predicted tomorrow. But, having moved in July this year, to a brand new house, I can feel comfortable at home, knowing that my home is warm & very cozy.
Roll on summer, I say!
I live in a camper and it doesn’t have very good installation and I’m only slowed to use my heated blanket at night because the electricity bill is already so high.
Stay warm, wrap yourself up, & take care. That's all you can do really, isn't it!
Sending warm gentle hugs to you

I remember a couple years ago during a football game I was in the band and we were out in the cold in just our uniforms. My knees flared up so bad I couldn’t walk back inside without help by halftime.
Same Ruthytootie2 we moved from a large rambling house with an extension which made the house in particular the bathroom very cold. i fell down the stairs last February - By March I have moved into a warm bungalow in a village. Best move I have even made, and warm. except for my feet, which were cold even in Spain and Turkey. Roll on summer too
Rain and cold the worst combi for he and very sub zero. My toes cramp like crazy! Just bought some bedsocks!!
Me too, it makes my joints seize up. Dampness is even worse though, that & humidity, the weather conditions you can't control. At least you can keep warm when outside by wrapping up in lots of layers, the best way to keep warm, & turning the heating up in the car & if you're fortunate enough to have heated seat, well, bliss, I can thoroughly recommend them. Inside you can have a heated blanket & foot warmer! Guess what I've got on to keep warm?!
A giant snow suit? Lol
No, silly, a heated blanket & foot warmer!
What does a foot warner look like? I’ve never heard of one. Should possibly invest though my toes are one of the latest victims to flare ups as well as my fingers and neck.
Like the one here lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offe...
I posted about the offers the other day, they're on sale from tomorrow. I can really recommend the foot warmer, had them years. I also have the back & neck warmer which is also good.
HaHa that's a good one
Yes the cold definitely makes RA worse. Do you keep warm in bed? I wear socks and a bed jacket. Not very nice but hey who cares? It is very cold here at the moment I keep warm throughout the day not with the heating on but with lots of nice warm clothes. It is worth investing in a cashmere jumper rather than paying for heating. The air quality is better without the heating. Hope this helps.....
Definitely!
I’m so glad you will be seeing your rheumy soon.
How’s the new trailer working out?

Hi Everyone,
My best tip for keeping warm in sub zero temperatures is pure silk thermals. They are one of the few luxuries I consider I cannot do without. Mine come from a firm called Patra.
I also continue to swear by large doses of Vitamin D3 as a far more effective anti-inflammitory than anything available via either my GP or Rheumatologist.
Keep warm and safe during this Winter.
