Hand pain

I have AS, and have a lot of peripheral symptoms. I was started on 15mg MTX which did wonders for the pains. About a month ago hand pains among others increased, and my MTX was increased to 20mgs. It hasn't had a huge impact on hand pain. I use compression gloves when resting at home, but cannot work with these on. Does anyone have tips for getting on top of the pain and stiffness on the hands.

I don't have any answers for you I'm sorry, just sympathy as another AS sufferer in the South East! I'm bumping your post to the top so maybe you can get a better chance at some help.

Btw what is "compression glasses bed" when it's at home, as they say?

My AS is peripheral in the main also, but guess I'm lucky that whatever pain I get it usually lasts less than a day before moving to another part of my body.

Lol, predictive text. Should be compression gloves. My Benepali has improved my spine so much, but does not seem to help peripheral pains so much. Have swellings where tendons insert.

I read your post stating compression gloves??

Sorry your funding things tricky. Initially, my hands were particularly bad. I used the gloves over night, splints during the day but one of the most effective things was putting my hands on sunk dull if pretty hot water and moving/ stretching them. Flexibility was greatly improved and lasted a good couple of hours ?

The OT suggested this- maybe worth consulting with them re helpful suggestions?

That should've read " sink full of!"

Have you tried soaking your hands in a warm solution of Epsom salts? It could be a bit awkward at work though. I have found squeezing a hot wheat bag comforting if you have access to a microwave or those little self-heating gel handwarmers can be used cold from the fridge or hot as required. Hugs

Someone on another forum suggested Arnica gel. Woke to severe pain this morning, applied gel put on compression gloves, and went back to bed for an hour. Woke up with much less pain 😁. Will take gel to work

If you don't mind pharma rather than natural perhaps your GP could prescribe Piroxicam gel. It works for me. Unfortunately, it leaves a nasty-looking rather leprous residue but easily washed off. Hugs

It's interesting that you are having pain in your hands because I've noticed the same thing recently. I don't know why other than it's been kind of damp and it's not been all that warm.

Seems no rhyme or reason to why mine flare up. Has been happening on and off for a few years now. Usually wake to some degree of stiffness
