Can someone explain to me why, if say, your awarded pip until June 2018, you receive an application to apply for it again a year earlier? Potentially, this means you apply and if the award is refused, you miss a whole year where the award was already granted? If that makes sense??

Or maybe I've got this wrong?!

Following as I was thinking the same thing recently Marie.

I think they would still have to give you the original reward up to the expiry date but it's not clear.

It's not, is it? Going to endeavour to find out though as otherwise , it would be grossly unjust - another cost cutting exercise

I'm not sure there's anything in the guidance I've read which explains why we're called a year before the award finishes why Marie, though I remember when I received my award I was surprised I would be contacted again 12 months prior to my award ending. This in effect means our award isn't for the length of time given. I can only surmise that at the time it was thought up the backlogs were such it was necessary to have such a long lead time? The decision makers procedural guidance is publicly available if you can find time to trawl through it. It is amended regularly so be sure you have the latest one if you do! That said I don't think the re-assessment prior to the award ending part of the guide has changed since PIP was first rolled out.

I'm not sure what you mean by applying & the award being refused etc. Bit too early for non standard questions the day after MTX day! 😟

Sorry I don't have a direct answer, unless you can simplify? I know I used far too much energy on PIP in 2014 as I applied in the April, received the form in July & assessed in the December. It resulted in being awarded it for 4 years & in reality it's only 3. I expect to be called for mine at the end of the year & it doesn't seem two minutes since I was filling out the form!

Thanks NMH

What I meant is that there's no guarantee that because you have pip , you get it again when you apply to renew it. Therefore if your awarded it for a certain period and you receive the renewal application a year before the original award ends- and then it's decided you don't meet the criteria fir any award - your effectively "cheated " and lose a year of your original award - Haha; not sure thats any clearer !

Just doesn't seem fair or just ?

I will look into it.

Thanks for your help. Hoping things are relatively well for you and yours .

No, there are no guarantees you (or anybody) will be awarded it again though I would hope it was understood though that the info we give isn't fabricated so is awarded again, be it less or more than the previous award. Yes, it would mean if the review is denied that you're cheated of a year's award, that's assuming you are disallowed the remainder of the original award, I'm not entirely clear on that. I'm starting to tie myself in knots so hope you understand! I'll look further into it too, we'll see if we concur!

I posted yesterday about my latest issue. Big appointment with 2 surgeons next Tues for my h so we're consumed with will they/won't they operate just now. If not it's 2nd opinion time, his Psychologist has prepared the way to discuss his case with surgeons at both Manchester & Liverpool.

Hope you're as well as you can be?

Thanks NMH

I fully understand what you're saying . It's just that it only occurred to me this morning ( Lord knows why!) and I thought it really unfair!

However, clearly I don't know the ins and outs of it so, if only to satisfy my curiosity, I'll check it out.

A worrying time for you both- there's something about that not knowing when, the heightened anticipation , that can be hard going.

I sincerely wish your H the very best and I hope you both receive the news that's most beneficial.

I'm not too bad- same old but thank you for taking the time to ask.

Off to Budapest next week with my sisters and daughters so I do look forward to that. Not as much as I did as was told yesterday Mums nearing the end so we need to make the decision as to where that will be- hospital or home. It's a frightening time to be leaving the Country but we've decided to go ahead and can only pray that's the right decision?

She's such a fighter that I hope this is the case

If you crack the code deal me in! Thank you for your good wishes.I hope you all have a lovely holiday. I'm sorry to hear about your Mum, difficult times. It's never easy, whichever you choose. We had the same with my mother in law & whilst we felt guilty at the time realised when things had settled we did make the right choice. You've to make the right choice for you all that's the thing. Unfortunately it was the wrong decision with my Dad but he insisted we went along with our holiday plans. I remain sure he knew & didn't want me there. Good to know your Mum's a fighter.

Thank you, I genuinely appreciate your kind words. It's a balancing act isn't it? The needs of many.

Take care and thanks again.

Your timings are similar to mine. I was awarded June 2014- June 2018. Hence the reason I ask as I'm sure I'll receive application / renewal soon.

Why award four if it's really only three years?

I get that there will be a back log, they apparently wish award to be seamless etc, but really??

Hi, It's as NMH says...it's because of the huge backlogs they had when they first rolled out PIP. I know personally as others did that I waited nearly a year from first applying to receiving my award!! I have heard of others not needing another face to face assessment on re-applying but they look at it eas individual application. I wouldn't worry too much about feeling that you have cheated if you are refused...which hopefully you won't be, they assessed you originally as needing that length of award...so time to get a reconsideration in..if that make sense?! Anyway good luck 😉. Mine's due for renewal this year and I've not changed/improved as my damage is permanent but I will "jump" through the hoops as requested and pray I get a longer award this time but I'm very grateful for any extra help I receive as it helps enormously. X

I totally agree and will reapply when I receive things. Wishing you the best of luck when the time comes.

In each and everyway though - the hoops we have to jump through, the challenges we have to face, the emphasis on "proof"- it's altogether an unjust, demeaning system.

Take care all

You would get it till the date on the original award, I think it's just in case you are better/ more able than you were. If you fill the form in as 'no change' you probably wouldn't need another assessment but if , like me, you change something ( mine was different meds to the original form as mine had changed) then they call you in for a new assessment. I saw a lovely lady for my second assessment and she disagreed with the amount of PIP I was awarded and I now get the higher rate so it's not always a bad thing!

Were you sent a new form or a Local compliance telephone appointment?

I was awarded PiP in 2015 until 2018 (3 yrs) I have just been reassessed and one part has been downgraded to standard from higher. As far as I am aware I will now receive £100, approx per month, less straight away. So I agree why give it for three years in the forst place when you don't get it?

They get you every which way- it's a ridiculous and unjust system

Further to my comment earlier today I have just received my letter detailing the rise in PIP that I've been awarded. They have awarded it till may 2023 and will contact me to see if there is any change in my needs in May 2022.
