Have just come home from the doctors. It appears i have something called Wry neck. My big muscle in the right side has gone into a spasm and is so very painful. There is nothing he can give me for that (nothing unusual there) i can put heat on it and massage anything that will help ease it.He did say it is going to take weeks to recover from. Just great more pain that isn't going to go anytime soon.xxxxxx
Found out why my neck is so sore......: Have just come... - NRAS
Found out why my neck is so sore......
Just what you needed, eh Sylvie? The fun never stops. I do hope you find a way to ease the pain very soon. Great big hugs

I find I have to see a chiropractor regularly, worth a thought?
so sorry for more pain. I've heard of a wry sense of humor, but never a wry neck.
I can tell you it is very painful i can assure you of that.xxxxx
Wrynecks are small sparrow-sized birds, appearing greyish overall, with brown and buff mottling. They have a contrasting dark band running down from the back of the head onto the back. They feed almost exclusively on ants and unlike other woodpeckers, are seen mainly on the ground, and do not often climb up vertical trunks or branches.
I tried to put a photo here, but can't.
Is this muscle spasm caused by stress? I get very stiff mussles when I'm under stress so much so that my shoulders look attached to my ears!!! I bought an electric messager neck wrap. It cost me about $60Can and it is worth every penny!!
My back went into spasm and dislocated a couple of ribs a couple of years ago . I was treated with low dose diazepam to relax the muscle and i also went for acupuncture which really helped . You will need to rest until it settles , best wishes xxx
Sounds like you need a deep tissue massage, very painful but would release the muscle
That's exactly what I was thinking Ruth. Maybe not a tough deep tissue massage, I reckon even a nice gentle massage would help Sylvi. That and some heat in the area, especially after our lovely warm weather has disappeared, I'm trying not to say 'gone' because I'm hoping it will be back.
It's not that I love hot weather (in fact when I was complaining about being really 'creaky' at Pilates last week, my teacher said she had two other ladies who had said the same thing) my body doesn't have a thermostat but I definitely prefer not having to wrap up every time I go outside.
So try and find someone who can give you a nice relaxing massage , then keep warm Sylvi 😘
You poor thing! I'm sending you a very gentle, but heartfelt hug x
so sorry Sylvi that your neck is so painful and the Dr's say they can't help fingers crossed (on my goodish hand lol) that it eases soon for you and you manage to find something to help you with the extra pain until it does. I know it not made it better finding out what's wrong with your neck but I hope it has put your mind at ease knowing what it is as the worry of what it is can be stressful. Try and rest and take care gentle hugs xx
When my neck is a spasm i use and small roller on it, it hurts alot but then does seem to lessen the spasm. I don't know if it would help or you probably have already tried it. Wishing you relief soon! Xx
Poor you! I know a cyber hug wont help but I'm sending one anyway xx
You have my empathy Sylvi. I had this back in the late '90's which led on to cervical spasm. The treatment at that time was paracetamol & ibuprofen taken together & using a cervical collar, to sleep in only. This was pre RD & when diagnosed I was also diagnosed with cervical spondylosis (neck OA). I questioned if it could be because of my previous history with my neck & was told very possibly.
I hope your pain eases soon, it's miserable. Hugs. x
I have oa in my neck already and this is what i thought it was that not what the doctor told me,to say i was in shock when he showed me a photo of the muscle concerned. It is a large muscle and it supports a lot of the body from my waist up and into my right hand as it was my right side muscle. When i was diagnosed with RA it was all down my right side and now this muscle being on my right as well.xxxx
Just googled to see what a wry neck is and found this - the title of his paper sounds pretty dramatic and the position you have to get into sounds interesting but it seems to have good results - if getting in position doesn't finish you off. Don't think I'd want to do it alone or unsupervised though 😉
Thank you for that it is certainly a good read.xxxx
I have trouble with my right side neck and I'm being refered to neck and shoulder spec hope u feel better xx
