After having my gynae admission delayed due to shingles and D and V, I finally went in. Had fibroids and polyps removed and a mirena coil put in. Apart from doing my usual fainting everything went fine. The idea was to reduce bleeding during the menopause, to help with anaemia. Since then I have been either having a heavy discharge or bleeding and constant period pains. However, my mood is much improved and so is the soreness from lichens sclerosis. So I'm perceiving. Has anyone else had similar experiences with the coil? The thing that has really improved my mood is the arrival of Hannah my granddaughter. Watching Eli and Hannah makes all the pain go away.

Hi Jo, Congratulations on your new granddaughter.
I tried the Mirena for 6 months. Just couldn't get on with it so had my uterus removed. Followed shortly afterwards by my ovaries. My reason was pain though, hardly had any blood flow at all.
Enjoy your grand kids and see you soon.

Thanks, seeing the practice nurse in June and ill give it a while see how it goes. Hope to meet up maybe next week. Theres a few other ladies interested now as well.
How long ago was it put in as although they can take time to settle it sounds as if you should get checked sooner as you have had surgery as well. My mirena has been great - now being tested for end of menopause for it to be removed and have had no bleeding for most of the time it has been in.
put in three weeks ago. They told me to expect some bleeding But I thought it would settle by now. It was more the period pains, which have been pretty constant. But I agree I think Ill phone the surgery and ask for advice. Thankyou.
Hi johare and many congratulations on your beautiful new granddaughter. Welcome to the world Hannah! Hugs

Thankyou, its amazing how much difference the new arrivals make to the family. Eli is nearly eight now, but has been an excellent big brother despite having ASD.
Hi Jo
I had a Mirena coil fitted several years ago during a hysteroscopy and had a polyp removed at the same time. Id been having very heavy periods and kept getting anaemia.
After the coup went in I had cramping pains for a week (not unlike labour pains, I was hanging on to my kitchen worktop and had to do my breathing exercises!). The pain/discomfort started to settle over the next few weeks. I think having a polyp cut out (more in your case) must make it all so sore and with a new coil in there irritating the sore bits.
Initially I had heavy bleeding, but that reduced after a week or so to just spotting for the first six months. I'd say it took 6 months for everything to settle fully.
After six months my periods stopped completely 🤗 and I had no problems with a succession of Mirena coils over the next 10 years. It was fantastic, so I was glad I'd hung in there.
I wish you well and hope you are now over the worst. If you are still having heavy bleeding might be worth speaking to your GP to check for any signs of infection.
Gorgeous grand daughter, very sweet.
Best wishes
Thankyou, this sounds like a very similar story to mine. I want to wait as there have also been benefits to it already. I have made an appointment with the practice nurse just to check it as I feel very swollen inside and they did say to watch out for rejection with Lupus. But I am hoping it works and just gets me through the menopause to reduce the anaemia. It would be one less battle.
Congratulations! What a beautiful girl Have fun with her.
After a few difficulties I now haven't had any difficulties with my coil for years x
Hi, congratulations on your beautiful grandaughter. I had a mirena fitted to help with very heavy periods. Unfortunately it didn't help me at all. I had a constant nasty smelly discharge with it and spotting for almost a year. I kept asking for it to be removed to be told to give it longer. Eventually I just said take it out or I'll do it myself.
I eventually asked for a hysterectomy. I had a subtotal hysterectomy where just my uterus and fallopian tubes were removed. It was the best thing I ever did. Wish it had been done 20yrs earlier!
My sister had a Mirena too and for her it worked really well. It saw her through menopause and she didn't even realise.
Thankyou. Yep that seems to be the story. People love it or hate it. I was wondering if the lupus was the main issue to reject, infection or it not working as intended. I hope its just a hick up.
