Have your doctors given you advice? As the liver can be repaired if it's just early stage f non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD).

This is what the NHS advice page says:

Adopting a healthy lifestyle is the main way of managing NAFLD. The following can all help:

Lose weight – you should aim for a BMI of 18.5-24.9; use the BMI calculator to work out your BMI. Losing more than 10% of your weight can remove some fat from the liver.

Eat a healthy diet – try to have a balanced diet high in fruits, vegetables, protein and carbohydrates, but low in fat, sugar and salt. Eating smaller portions of food can help too.

Exercise regularly – aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, such as walking or cycling, a week. All types of exercise can help improve NAFLD, even if you don't lose weight.

Stop smoking – if you smoke, stopping can help reduce your risk of problems such as heart attacks and strokes.

NAFLD isn't caused by alcohol, but drinking may make the condition worse. It's therefore advisable to cut down or stop drinking alcohol.

NAFLD (fatty liver) is not due to alcohol alone. Unfortunately as time goes by it becomes more likely, especially if you don't have a healthy lifestyle. So it can appear suddenly. What do your doctors say?

I developed NAFLD after a very bad reaction to antibiotics. It is not ever going to be good again but I have managed to keep it at a level that hasn't progressed too much. Yay. The obvious ones, no alcohol and good eating really. I can't exercise as I am so fatigued I have nothing left after working full time to even think about going and doing exercise. Maybe one day. I do know that some of the drugs I have taken have sent it in to meltdown, so make sure if you are on any DMARDS or biologics that your liver levels are monitored closely.

Read up on high fructose corn syrup HFCS and how it is manufactured by using mercuric chloride and how it is metabolized by the liver. (I don't like the thoughts of mercury in my food). It first appeared in the food industry in the early 1970's along with a correlation of fatty liver, non-alcoholic type, rising in response. HFCS goes directly to the liver to be metabolized and is converted into fat, hence it causes fatty liver disease which leads to cirrhosis and to liver cancer. HFCS is found in everything from soda to bread, Devil Dogs, ketchup, etc. I've eliminated all HFCS from my diet. It was difficult in the beginning trying to shop for food. I was only able to find 2 types of bread on the shelf without it. Now there are more breads becoming available that actually list right on the front of the packaging that there is no HFCS contained in their bread. Shoprite grocery store next to where I work has little labels placed where the price labels go on the shelf edge stating that this is a HFCS free food. I love that store. It makes shopping a little easier. Once you get to know the products that are free from it, shopping goes by a little more quickly. Heinz ketchup contains it, but they make an organic one that doesn't. Hershey syrup contains it but Nestle syrup states it is free of it right on the front label. Besides fatty liver disease, I have primary biliary colangitis PBC, an autoimmune death sentence. I was itching constantly from blocked bile ducts causing bile and all the toxins to back up into the blood. Since I now watch what I eat by excluding HFCS and preservatives and other chemicals found in processed foods like nitrites in hot dogs, I don't itch at all now. I make homemade meals from fresh meats, fruits and veggies. I try not to tax my liver which one of its functions is to eliminate toxins from the body. So, all that I can say is to eat right, exercise and lose weight if need be. Hopefully, you and others find this info helpful.

Is high fructose corn syrup used in products made in the UK?

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is a liquid sweetener which is used in foods and beverages produced in the US but very rarely used by UK manufacturers. HFCS is commonly produced with 55% fructose.

In Europe some manufacturers use the liquid sweetener Glucose-Fructose Syrup (GFS), sometimes referred to as isoglucose, which is composed of different simple sugars, mainly glucose and fructose, with varying compositions. The fructose content of this ingredient can range from 5% to 50%. Where the fructose content of the syrup is above 50%, the name on the ingredient list will read Fructose-Glucose Syrup.

The European Union, which regulates the allowed production quota of sugars, limits the production of GFS to around 5% of total sugar production in the EU, meaning that it makes up a very small percentage of the sugar consumed in Europe.

I wish here in the US that they would ban HFCS. I limit my use of sucrose and even stay away from using honey as it contains 38% fructose. The only fructose I consume is found naturally in fruit and in small quantities.

I think all of North America needs to ban HFCS. I was naively under the impression that Canada had reduced HFCS in our food products...not so, they just changed the name.
