Evening all, well i was down the hospital this morning to get my bloods done and while i was down there i managed to get hold of my neuro surgeons secetary(excuse spelling)
She is going to leave him a message about me being in so much pain and not knowing when i was going to get the infusion i need and she said if i was in that much pain i was to go to a&e which i did. After waiting over four hours to see a dr, all he did was give me cocodamol would you believe. I came away from there thinking what a complete waste of my time. Bec ause i don't get any numbness with the pain i wonder if they believe me. This has been the reason i haven't been down there before. I am still in an awful lot of pain and i wonder where to go to next to help ease the pain i am in.xxxx

Hi Sylvi, it's been a long time since I logged on due to health and personal reasons. Then I read how you are feeling and I just want to send a gentle hug an offer a body to shout out if it will help. The pain is unrelenting ,wish it was possible to offer something new. i believe in your pain. xx
I feel sorry but the local A&E saved my life last year and not sure you were advised correctly really. Can you not get an urgent appointment to see your consultant ? It seems very cruel to allow you to continue to suffer and I'd suggest you get a GP appt. to see if he/she can get something done quickly.
I spoke to the consultants secetaryn and she said she would leave a message for the consultant. I will ring the drs in the morning and see what they can do for me.xxx
My daughter has a genetic condition which meant she needed medical intervention so that she would be able to eat and breathe properly. At one point I was told she needed to be seen by a consultant urgently. When no appointment came I rang his secretary daily to see what was happening. That soon got her the required appointment!
I am sorry that you are in such bad pain but I agree, I don't think that the Emergency Department is the best place to attend for chronic pain problems.
An emergency appointment with your GP might be more useful as at least they can review you if they make any changes and I firmly believe that continuation of care is vital when trying to manage pain. Does your local hospital have a pain team that you can be referred to?
Good, I hope they can and quickly. My GP gave me a painkiller called Zapain the other week its to be used with care as it can be addictive, but it does work for me at least.
Mine features a number of walk in clinics for arthritis. They have them scattered round about but there is also a hospital (Queen Mary's in Roehampton) with a big walk in orthopaedic dept. If you have an injury they will do an MRI while you wait. I know several people who have been there and some have been given an injection into the affected joint - always the knee for various reasons.
Also, my GP surgery runs an arthritis clinic once a week or fortnight with a visiting surgeon for people who have not been diagnosed but think they have osteo arthritis or might need a hip or joint replacement.
You could also try the nurse if you can't get a GP appt. She can write out a prescription and get the GP to sign it.
I am seeing my regular gp tonight at 5pm. So we will see what he has to say.xx
So sorry Sylvi - God it's annoying when WE (the patient ) cannot treat ourselves, and THEY (the medical profession) don't. It's unfair, and worse it just adds depression and anger onto the pain. Can you call your doc's emergency line? I don't know how it works there in the UK, but my doc does have an emergency line. However, they will generally send me to the ER anyway. But, maybe if you tell them that you have already been?
