I use tart cherry juice it does keep inflammation down also blood pressure and is supposed to help with sleep. Holland and Barrett have it in the penny sale at the moment

( I don’t have gout )

I bought the Cherry Juice in local H&B. Following instrs for 3 days - gout, inflammation and pain has cleared al.ost completely. I have also been drinking juice of lemon in 1/2 pint of water and teaspoon of turmeric in 1/2 pint of water and taking a teaspoon of black seed oil with sativa; I had felt some progress on this regime. However, taking 30ml of the cherry juice in 1/2 pint water once a day seems to have majorly influenced the clearing of the condition. The pain relief is fantastic. Thanks again for the information.

P.S. if you know anyone with psoriasis, I have some good advice for that.

Sorry to hear that you are having such a painful time.

Allopurinol is a preventive medicine to keep your uric acid levels down. It won't help in an acute attack. You need to seek medical advice - and no point in having a uric acid test at this stage as having an acute attack reduces it. After it has settled done you might need it repeated to check whether the dose of allopurinol is enough.

Treatment for an acute attack includes steroids (oral or by injection), colchicine, or/and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in high doses (you might need a stomach protector with those).

Patsymay is right. The juice should be made from Montmorency cherries not ordinary ones in order to help gout. Buy it from a health food shop or online.

Montmorency Cherry juice did the trick for me . Just dilute the concentrate into a glass and drink daily. A lot of the problem is not building up too much uric acid but not being able to remove it .Alcohol stops removal so if this applies also stop drinking whilst having acute attack.

Many thanks for your reply, I will look for the cherry juice. I don't drink alcohol but I think chocolate and sweets are my culprit.

Holland and Barrett stock the juice as well as other health food shops. It will reduce your uric acid levels as I didnt eat anything high in purine which causes it but obviously had problems excreting the excess which the cherry juice helps with.

Good luck !

Hiya tomcard. Sorry you're having the pain of gout, it's misery making I know. Allopurinol won't help unfortunately, in fact it will be making things worse by prolonging the attack. You do still need to take it though. It works best for what it was prescribed for, to reduce the uric acid enough to prevent attacks.

I’d really strongly suggest you don't try to treat this acute attack yourself. The sooner it's treated the better & you need medical supervision particularly as you're still taking allopurinol. An NSAID or steroids are usually prescribed but until you can get an appointment you could try an ice pack & elevate the affected joint where possible. If it's your toe a handy thing to do for when in bed is to put the afflicted foot in a cardboard box, it stops discomfort (!) of the weight of the bedding, even the lightest duvet can feel light a ton weight with gout. 😫
