On week 6 of MTX. Just went up to 20mg last week. Doing quite well but GP has asked for urine sample now as well as bloods. Receptionist didn't say whether this is normal or because last test showed something suspicious.
Any advice from those further on?
Thanks xx

As part of my monitoring as someone with a long-term health condition (RD) I have my kidney function checked each year. The test involves measuring a chemical in the urine and I think comparing it with the blood levels or something like that (I had it explained the first time it was done!). So it's likely they are just keeping an eye on everything, not looking for anything specific.
When I was on MTx they checked every month. They have to start with some baseline information so they can monitor for changes. If you are feeling better, enjoy ! Best wishes.
I have drug monitoring bloods monthly, unless a new DMARD is introduced then it's fortnightly for 6-8 weeks, & I have urine tests every 3 months. The only time a urine test is requested otherwise is if one of my markers is raised, such as my WBC, just to double check for infection but I've been on MTX nearly 7 years. In your case maybe because you've had an increase in dose your GP is questioning one of your levels? Do you keep your own monitoring book or printout of your blood results? If so have a look & see if there's any pattern suggesting a possible abnormal result.
I wouldn't worry, it could be like mine & your Practice doesn't do MTX monitoring for any other patients & they're being super careful.
Yes that is normal. When I was first diagnosed it was blood tests etc every 2 weeks then every month, now every two months. The nurse at my Gp also sees me every month and does blood test and urine sample. I feel I am being well looked after but still hate taking the different drugs. Hope all goes well for you.
Yes it is normal. They are checking liver and kidney function. Once you are established on MTX; which takes a few months they will no doubt reduce how often you have a blood and urine test.
Thanks everyone. I was called in for bloods and urine test this morning. THIS nurse (always someone different!) says it's because my potassium levels were raised at the last blood test and they need to check my kidneys are coping with MTX 😞
