Hi again, I have been advised to have any live vaccinations I may need in the future before starting abatacept. Does anyone know where I could find a list of live vaccinations?

Thank you

xx

Look on google - live attenuated vaccines

Do they mean have your flu jab? Which isn't live by the way?

I have to have my flu jab so many weeks before or after my Rituximab infusions as the Ritux kills B cells strips away the antibodies?

Or maybe they said don't have any live vaccines as being immunosuppressed you could get the virus.

You need to go back to gave you the advice and ask what they mean.

Thank you kikideelili. I had a chat with my RA consultant today and was told it was shingles and yellow fever if I wanted to travel to countries where the yellow fever vaccinations was a requirement. I was told not to worry about the shingles as it is only normally given to those over 70 years of age and that they are looking to bring out a non-live version of the shingles vaccination in a couple of years time.

How very thorough of your Rheumy department to think of this. In 2000 yell fever was required for Malaysia and I was stopping off on my way to NZ. I couldnt eat or drink a thing in the airport. I was on and still am on mtx so couldn't have the live vaccination.

Is it just Africa you need yellow fever jab for?

I did a bit of research on google and found the following to be live attenuated vaccines - tuberculosis, shingles, MMR, oral polio, rotavirus and yellow fever. I put post on this blog yesterday to check I had not missed any. So when I went to see my rheumy this afternoon I mentioned these to her. My son is based in Caracas,Venezuela - I believe it is needed for South America - I have not checked where else it may be needed for. I will let you know when I have looked into it a bit more.

Thank you for your responses x

I hope you get the info you need. I see why your Rheumy mentioned the jabs, they must have known where your son lived.

I have no travel plans outside the uk. To be honest I'm very wary of vaccinations but of course you will want to visit your son at some point. Good luck and best wishes and I hope the new biologic is the bees knees!
