Stay safe in this extreme heat.....

Here are a few tips for staying safe and cool in this extreme heat. If like me when the heat spikes so quickly you suffer then hopefully a few things can help you. Someone on f/book suggested filling a hot water bottle with water and putting it in the freezer and put it on your neck with a cover on it to keep you cool during the hot nights. I know this may seem old fashioned, but draw your curtains to keep the sun out and it helps to keep the room cooler. The usual ones are always wear a hat, drink plenty and use sunscreen. Also stay indoors between 11 and 3 which is the hottest part of the day. I also have the fans on as well.

Anyone else have any good tips please feel free to share.xxxx

Hi Sylvi thanks for the reminder... Plunging hands in a bowl of cold water is what runners do if over heating, drinking a warm cup of tea and drinking extra water helps.

Me I'm in doors quietly painting a room one wall at a time (the luxury of being a teacher on hols = time to do two hours painting followed by resting, reading colouring etc).

Have a fab day

Hi Sylvi, I don't seem to tolerate the heat well at all anymore, even indoors. I do use gel wraps, I've bought from the store. I always keep a couple in the freezer, ready to go. Occasionally I just pour cold water on my head. Not a very pretty sight, but it does work. It also helps me cool down when I have an Italian ice. Mostly I stay indoors with the air conditioning on, when it gets warm outside. Stay cool and hydrated! Hope everyone gets to enjoy at least some of the summer days! Karen

I have a little hand held fan, the battery operated ones, bought very cheaply, 99p I think, that works well especially if it's centered on the neck. Also putting your wrists under running water, cold water tap, I used to do this regularly in Spain in the summer months & it really helps. Obvious ones like keeping hydrated, but not with ice in drinks. Emerse feet in a bowl of cool, not cold, water, bliss. x

I would add a hat that covers the back of your neck .

I, inadvertently got sun stroke like that once. Horrible.

Hot and cold are my best friends, I've tried melted wax gloves on my hands that was good, I just got held with my feet in kids paddling pool to cool them down, I've not tried to go out there in ages but I'm so glad I did. Also when I'm able I get making bath bombs with my daughter, epsom salts I've found soothing so I add them in and some dead sea clay and whatever essential oils suits my needs. Water therapy is fabulous I just wish I had the ability tk get there often for that experience but some of you may be more active than I'm able to be. And most importantly cut yourself some slack. Ra is an incredibly difficult disease to live with, your pain is very real and definitely the most extreme pain I've ever felt in my life, don't expect too much of yourself and remember to smile at every opportunity :)
