Pip assessment : Hi guys I have pip assessment at some... - NRAS
Pip assessment
It's not as bad as we fear it the unknown and the things that are out of our control that's worse I just followed the instructions and gave clear direct answer they say it's best to have someone with you I was alone and had home assessment that was mush better than the centre i went to the first time you are being assessed with your every move you will find loads of advice on the pip assessment on line
Hiya Pete. Well, there are positive experiences! I had my PIP assessment 18 months ago with Atos & whilst I wasn't awarded the mobility component I did get enhanced daily care, this is my experience of the assessment healthunlocked.com/nras/pos....
I did request mandatory reconsideration as I just fell short of standard mobility & felt the reasons the assessor gave were both misinterpreted & incorrect. I was unable at that time to provide further written medical evidence as my problems walking were due to lack of clinical care so the decision was upheld. It was bad timing as only a few weeks later my Rheumy did examine my feet, noted multiple problems/damage, amended my meds & referred me to Podietry. Of course I then had plenty of written evidence but just that bit too late to include in support of my request. To be honest it was more about automatically qualifying for a blue badge due to problems with walking distance so I decided to try applying separately & if I was unsuccessful I'd follow it up. I was given one so didn't take it any further. I'll be reassessed sometime towards the end of next year as my award stands til December 2018.
Other things I would add is be aware, you may be being watched as you enter the building. If you wish to claim travel expenses request a claim form at reception (when you announce your arrival/give proof of ID). As you're called through to assessment room by the assessor you're also being assessed how you rise from the chair & how you walk (your demeanour & speed).
If you have further medical evidence or additional prescribed meds from when you sent your application form they can be given to the assessor to include with the report for the DWP. You may ask for a copy of the report though this can also be requested from the DWP after you've received notification of your award.
If there's anything specific I've not covered in the link or here just ask, I'll help if I can. All the best & let us know when you get your assessment date through.
Im really confused by some of the discussions re PIP, i think this is 3rd time ive seen a post warning someone about being watched going to and from the assessment centre and how they are being observed not just at the assessment itself, i dont understand why that information is relevant or needed, im confused.
Well, the reason I mentioned them Leon was because I was certainly assessed from being in the waiting room before the actual assessment started. My name was called by the assessor & it was noted how I rose from the chair, if I was assisted & how I walked as confirmed in the decision makers reasoning as follows
"At assessment, you were observed to walk (etc)........from the waiting room, a distance of 15 metres......(etc)"
There were security cameras both outside in the car park & in the waiting room though I have no evidence to suggest they were being used for anything other than for security. Nevertheless I have read on reliable disability sites of them being used in assessment centres, hence my reason for mentioning it, I thought it helpful.
