morning Sylvi, this is great gets the morning cobwebs moving.
I'm not sure which was first, it was either 'So you win again' by Hot Chocolate or The Real Things ' You to me are Everything' 1977 I think. The charts then were on a Tuesday lunchtime Radio1, I use to be ill on that day, sit with my oh so huge radio cassette recorder taping pressing stop, rewinding, press play stop press pause and GO tape the next one repeat. Then Id write them down, next day go to school and tell everyone, lol. Makes me laugh now,I was 13/14.
Aww hot chocolate i see them at the maltings in Ely when i was oh so young and Errol brown well what can i say about him,he is the most sexiest man i have ever seen on a stage.xxxxxxx
Ooooo that's a hard one at this time in the morning, I think it was ' The young ones ' by Cliff Richard around 1965 . It was a record to play on my dander record player.xx
It would have been around 1970/ 71 and I got myself a Saturday job helping out in my aunts catering business. When I had saved up enough I went and bought myself a little record player and the first record I bought to go with it was "me and you and a dog named Boo" by Lobo.
As it was the only record I had at the time it was played over and over and over and over-you get the picture. Much to the annoyance of the other occupants in the house.Mum then went and bought me another record - it was something by the New Seekers - can't remember which one it was now.
But I still have all my old records and my little red record player up in the attic after all these years.- probably explains why our attic is bulging at the seams .I am a proper hoarder.
I then went on to buy a new record every week with some of my wages much to everyone's relief,as they didn't have to listen to "me and you and dog named Boo"about 50 times a day anymore.--lol
Hi All. I remember my first single purchased was by the Bee Gees - Massachusetts. My first LP was Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich Greatest Hits - I wonder how many of you are old enough to remember their songs Zabadack & Bend It!!
What lovely memories we all have, and how we have an idea of peoples generations. I'm in the older category, Lily the pink by Scafold went to number 1in 1968. I also remember trying to tape the top 20 on my radio cassette and getting annoyed everytime my dad moaned saying " this isn't real music " and spoiling my recording! I'm sure over the last 20 years I've said the same thing to my children about their music tastes, something I swore never to do in the 60s/70s . Hope everyone has a lovely weekend Linda
At one point I even took my tape recorder out and sat in the car to do recordings,I thought I had got it licked but the radio was crackly and it started to get cold by the Autumn so that soon stopped.
I'm sounding more like my mother every day,as a teenager something I swore I would never do.
Hi all, lovely to read everyone's memories. My first record was Pass the Duchy by Musical Youth, I remember sitting in front of my record player paying it incessantly, much to the annoyance of my brothers 😂😂
The one I remember going out to buy was Tracey by the Cufflinks! Played it on a shared by my sister, Dansette record player, which was orange. Happy days.
My 1st LP was The "Chirping" Crickets, but I can't date it as it had British and Foreign 'patents pending' on the slieve! However I do remember belting out The Shadows 'Apache' to call my kid brother's pigeons home, until the day Mother Nature called them elsewhere! 😉😉
Hi Sylvi, good morning to you, the first record was She Loves You by the Beatles. I bought it in Liverpool after bunking off school with two friends to go and see the Beatles come back to Liverpool. It was July 10th 1964, it was wonderful, thing was though, I didn't have a record player.
Cannot remember. But I do remember the excitement of going into the record shop with friends and all these boxes of records you could flick through then choose. It felt so grown up and part of a crowd.
Like Dillydriver I got a Danset record player for Christmas.
Mine was either Blondie Heart of Glass or the Specials Too Much too Young. Think it was Blondie.
Both still top tunes! Quite pleased because if I had been able I probably would have bought something like the smurf's song (Father Abraham?) or something by the Baron Knights.
And to this day I had never realised the play on words that Baron Knights is. Oh the innocence of youth.
1959 I think. Cliff Richard and the Shads Living Doll. I was so in love with him. One day I annoyed my younger Brother and he flushed all my pics of Cliff down the toilet😭 Still bitter to this day😀
This is such a lovely idea so many memories have flooded back reading all the replies. I was a bit naughty with my first record. It was getting near christmas and after having a snoop around I found a record player in the cupboard in my parents bedroom, I knew it would be for me as my two brothers were too yound. I save all my pocket money for a few weeks and bought 3 records! Jesmine by the Casuals, Eloise by Barry Ryan and The Good The Bad and The Ugly by Hugo Montenegro ! By the time it was christmas I had eight records Have a lovely Saturday everyone.
Morning, or should I say nearly afternoon! My first single was Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do 😀..... It was 1988 and I was 13 at the time. My first love of getting into rock music at the time - much to the annoyance of my parents xx
Well I had to think a bit but I can remember being very young and there was a duo called Peter and Gordon. They sang this song called 'please lock me away'. It made a great impression on me and was only about 6! But my absolute group was the Walker Brothers and I was in love with Scott. I still get goose bumps if I hear 'The Sun ain't Gonna Shine Anymore'.
Certainly brings back memories. I always associate music with certain people or situations. For instance the theme from Shaft still makes me feel sick as I was going through morning sickness with my first son!! Bit like Pavlov and his dogs I suppose!
Hi all I'm going to show my age now. The one i remember buying with birthday money was Little White Bull by Tommy Steel. That was back in the late fifties I believe. The next one was sang by George Fame But cannt remember the title It was his first record, and my mam said i didnt think you would buy that one but couldnt give me a reason why.
Mine was a Billie Holliday that doesnt reflect my age though. I think one of the first really contemporary records I bought was Jimmy Cliffe something out of Harder they Come -
Hi sylve, I must be really old. Harry Seacombe On With The Motley( not really a lover of classical music). Then my mum and went to see Grace Kelly in High Society and my Dad went in the front room and learnt all the words to True Love. Anyway Sylve I heard a little story yesterday. A young girl got married and when she came home she rung her mum and said the honeymoon was great, but please come and get me because he keeps using 4 letter words. After her mum kept asking why she pleaded, please, please come and get me I cannot stand the 4 letter words. What words said her mum. Wash Iron and Cook. Good, thought that might cheer you up. Take care
I was away on Saturday so missed this. My first RECORD was Mat Munroe, Mona Lisa. On second thoughts it was something to do with Around the world. I am probably so much older than most of you 70 in June but only just diagnosed with this awful disease. I love this site as you are all so helpful. X
