Does anyone know if RA or Osteoporosis can affect your teeth? Mine keep braking and due to one of me meds means I have to have them capped. It's costing a fortune!!! Would like to know if anyone else has this problem x Thanks x
Just wondering: Does anyone know if RA or Osteoporosis... - NRAS
Just wondering
my teeth recently just started to break up and i have had 2 crowns and then a whole new plate as there are no more full teeth to cap or crown. I felt guilty as though I had been neglectful so I am glad someone else has had the same 'phenomenon, although I do so empathise with you.
I had a period if needing a lot of urgent dental work I was told the deterioration in my teeth was down to Leflunamide(Arava). I had infections in my chest and teeth. I stopped taking Arava in 2001 and had no problems with my teeth since.
Yes I have 1 broken tooth up to now. It makes me wonder what next is in store with this disease x
I have lost 4 teeth since getting RA 3-4 yrs ago !! My dentist said it was due to the RA. The whole thing is so awful xx
Thanks to all who replied I had a check up and a week later I broke the first one and now this!! Just phoned dentist they don't class it as an emergency? Si they'll get back to me!! I ve had RA for ten years and I'm on lots of meds including mtx and under going tests for enrabel as just recently had lots flare's. Thanks to all xxx
I am due to have 2nd AA infusion for osteoporosis next month, l see my dentist last week and she said it can affect my jaw and should l need an extraction it would be a hospital job, it's a dilemma, good luck
Ahhh...thanks for the post and replies........I wasn't aware that RA affect teeth too. I have had problems with my teeth being loose and breaking as well as episodes of painful inflamed gums since diagnosis in 2013. I go to dental check ups and watch my sugar intake etc. and felt guilty that I should have taken more care of my teeth!

Hi
Just wondered if you had seen the section on the NRAS website on oral health? nras.org.uk/oral-health

I do go to my dentist ever 6 mths and I am very conscious about my iral hygiene so it must be another side to the RA or meds thanks for pointing out the information
I've had Rhumatoid and Osteorthritis for at least ten years. My Specialist has put me on MTX, with the warning that it will affect my hair, teeth and eyes. He is absolutely right, but the pain is so much better, that I prefer to continue with the treatment.
Best of luck. XX
Hi Fizborn, I very nearly had a wisdom tooth removed (about to be wheeled into the theatre!!) , the pain was terrible, turned out to be TMJ and my muscles going into spasm making me clench my teeth!! Had also had one broken molar for no apparent reason, oh the joys of RA lol!!!!
