When will they find a cure for " there's a lot of this about" as my GP is fond of saying and it covers everything from earache to boils to bubonic plague ? actually thats curable now but you get my drift.
Thing is I'm not sure whether its down to lockdown but I'm fed up with scare stories in the news, I think I'm going Covid deaf as if you ring our GP its 5 minutes listening to the recorded message telling us what to do when I only wanted to book a blood test. lol x

In my opinion, it’s partly the 24 hour news cycle. They need to be able to ‘report’ something to fill the cycle, which just seems to lead to ever increasing numbers of fluff and opinion pieces rather than actual news, or things that are really tenuous or vague and serve no real purpose other than to fill empty air time with unnecessary anxiety as a side effect. The bubonic plague one is a great example: we can cure it without issue for starters, but there’s also been 3500+ recorded cases worldwide since 2015. The plague isn’t news of any description, but suddenly we need to tell everyone there’s been an outbreak.
The other one that always gets me is when something’s happened, and having covered as much as they can initially, they then go to Bob, the cousin of the person that lives two streets away from the person that went to school with the milkman that knew the person in question’s dad when he was 5...👀🤦♂️ The whole thing does my absolute nut!! We went from a household that watched the news twice a day pre covid, along with a variety of current affairs programmes, and now we rarely have the tv on, but when we do it’s to watch the Simpsons, Judge Judy and my 600lb life. Trash tv simply feels more trustworthy and relatable, and unlikely to increase stress levels.
I have banned the news being on. I found it scared the begeebers out of me when the pandemic hit and added to my stress and I had enough of that. My husband would watch it all day if I didn’t put my foot down and tell him if he wants to watch it then watch it on the bedroom tv but I don’t need to hear about it. Having a massive flare amongst other issues don’t need adding to and I’m not one to do stress in any way I figure there’s not much I can do about it anyway only stay in follow the guidelines we’ve been given, of course read the posts on the forum and try and stay safe. I’ve come to the opinion that we are doing all we can but what will be will be.
I’m sure the message when ringing the GP Surgery is too put us off ringing them, it drives me nuts. I will try nmh advice, there must be a way of not having to hear it every time. With the news, I watch BBC Breakfast for a short while and maybe the 10pm news till it gets boring, they sometimes have other news ! X
I go to bed at 10 and watch something on Netflix. i get very tired due to the CKD and my lucky as my Husband doesn't mind as he likest o catch up on sport.
My partner and I have very different tastes on TV, so luckily we have our own homes. Before Covid when we spent weekends together, we put the radio on, or listen to music, a good compromise, although sport often crept on when I wasn’t looking ! Keep well x
We have to choose between listening in Welsh or English before we get to 'if you have chest pain.... you can get medicines from the pharmacy under the minor illness scheme ... etc. And then when you get through to make the appointment (after listening to "you are number 1 in the queue" for a while) they haven't set up the computer booking for that week yet. Oh the joys of phoning the surgery!
Yup And I think it'll probably never go back to normal. We've now got a Pharmacist and Paramedic attached as well as a community advice person. All this to help the GP's do there work better. This was the publicity blurb anyway, it remains to be seen if it works though.
Having moved out of Wales last year after 18 years in the west and south, aside from the bilingual side of it, I’ve discovered that some of that is actually uniquely Welsh, particularly the system not being set up for booking, and only being able to book a few weeks in advance. Pre covid, the surgery here literally had a msg encouraging people to use the online service. With covid, the surgery has the same msg with an addendum about going online because the workload has increased due to covid, and then you’re into the options. Same with the hospital. Weirdly, I do kind of miss the anticipation of the pause before the woman telling you what number in the queue you are, though. That little thrill when you moved up one. Maybe that’s just me 👀🙈
