Hi,

I was taking Humira which was fine for about 6 months then it started to fade. I was then given azathioprine 150mg and I do not feel like this is doing anything for me. I see my Consultant next week to discuss.

Contact dial if you have one in your area I am one point of high mobility and my condition is worse but I dare not tell them for fear of having it taken away I had a hard time getting my award and they helped me that advised me to wait as so many are loosing they claim

Look on the Benefits & Work website, I wouldn't use any other site.

You can contact CAB. Check the award details, and see what they have allowed or not. Treat all areas of the award as though it was your worst day.

If i where you o would accept it...as ive heard alot of cutbacks are coming into force...the high pip is very hard to get now. Terminal cases..and servere disability..its very stressful appealing... but if you have the strenght too .try it. But i know people are losing for this high componant...i would sit back and think about it....long road to get on for the fight... not sure lots of rumours to this pip been stricter...and i do know of one person two weeks ago lost at court. Was devastated...and there award was for life on pip...due to mental issues.he has to start all again with applying for pip...just think hard about it....good luck

CAB - ask for the disability advisor. Ask PIP for copies of all the documents and take them in to CAB.

I was told I was not anxious but I had a home visit so I would have been more relaxed.

The problem arises because the criteria for DLA and PIP are different, and the thresholds for getting the PIP mobility component are higher.

To qualify to get the old enhanced rate DLA, you had to be "unable or virtually unable to walk without severe discomfort" (or be 80%+ blind or have a severe learning disability). That meant that lots of people with rheumatoid arthritis qualified.

To get the higher rate of PIP, you have to be in a wheelchair, or be unable to walk more than 20m without significant problems (or need a guide dog or support worker because you are blind or have a severe learning disability). 20m is a specific distance and it is really not very far at all, so a lot of people who qualified under DLA are not qualifying under PIP.

Just to clarify, you will only qualify for higher rate PIP mobility if you use a support worker or guide dog or wheelchair, or cannot stand and walk at all without pain, or cannot walk 'reliably' more than 20m. If not, it is probably not worth appealing, unfortunately.

However, do go and see someone from Citizens Advice or your local Benefits Advice team if you have one - particularly if you are not sure whether you would reach this threshold. Sometimes it can be hard to judge whether or not you can actually walk 20m reliably, especially if your mobility fluctuates.
