Trochanteric bursitis

Have been reading posts put on here about this. I have had pain recently in what I can only describe as 'cheeks of backside'. I tend to put any pains I get down to this rotten RA! Could this possible be the above? I apologise if this sounds odd but pain awful. Hope all keeping positive.

When I complained of hip pain my rheumy jabbed his finger straight into a point on the side of my hip and I yelled. He immediately said it was trochanteric bursitis so it would seem to be easy for an expert to diagnose.

I kind of, sort of, possibly think that pain in the backside, as well as being an overall description of RD, is possibly down to sacroiliac joints. But I don't know for sure. The troch pain for me is more localised on the side, came on suddenly and made sleeping on that side well nigh impossible.

And what you say doesn't sound odd, I find the backside pain comes & goes and have often heard others mention it.

I agree with postle2, definitely the side of the hip. I also get sacro-iliac pain and it's as you describe Susanbet, makes me feel that I have to hold my buttock cheek! Clemmie

Similar to Postle it was hip pain that I brought to the attention of my Rheumy but it also went alround to my back, the same side as the hip pain & down the outer thigh. I had an idea it may be trochanteric bursitis as another member had posted about being diagnosed with it not long after the pain became pretty uncomfortable, the symptoms were so similar. She prodded around my hip & then centred on one part & I nearly hit the roof. Oddly though the hip pain is only my right side but my thigh pain is exactly the same on my left leg. I intend to question this at my next appointment.

I'd certainly mention it at your next Rheumy appointment but be prepared for the examination to determine if it is!

pain in your buttocks can be from your sacro-iliac joints or from your lower back. Often we use our backs in different ways when we have pain elsewhere. You might find looking at your posture helpful to see if you are compensating to relieve pain elsewhere.

But ask about your sacro-iliac joints as well

I was told its the hip bones ,the arthritis can lead into ankylosing spondylitis and this affects the sacrosciliac ? Joints ,x rays showed mine were frilly ,hence the feeling of sitting on bones
