Hot Oil Hand Spa

Has anyone else tried a hot wax hand bath spa? My mum has lent me hers, and I have to say that although it doesn't take away the pain, it is a real treat! I do it twice a week before bedtime, and it feels wonderful! You can feel the heat go right through to the bones. Fantastic! Has anyone else tried it? Xxx

Yes I tried it last week at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

My physio said there was time at the end of my hydrotherapy session for me to go to the floor above with a tech to show me the wax bath and for me to try it.

It was heaven! I dipped my hands in to just above my wrists and held them there for seconds, then slowly pulled them up. This was repeated 4 times, each time I pulled my hands up and there was another coating of warm and soothing wax.

I was then given a plastic bag for each and then a warm towel was wrapped around both of my hands in bags.

The warm wax was lovely. Before starting I had pain in my knuckles in both of my hands, while it didn't all go away the warmth was lovely, it was a very gentle, slow warming of my hands not at all uncomfortable.

There wasn't time to try it again this week, but just down the road at Sally's beauty supplies these parafin wax kits can be bought for £50-60...that may seem like a lot, but I've tried hot, warm and cold water sinks (kitchen) and they didn't do anything for me. I may also look on Amazon and Ebay just to check out the prices, but when you go to Sally's the staff are really helpful answering all of queries, daft questions and offering advice on different types of wax etc and it's handy to find a friend with a 'discount trade card!'

Plus when the wax was peeled off like a glove at the end of 5 minutes my hands were lovely and soft! Bonus!

They're heaven! My husband said he would buy me one for my birthday. Amazon do great deals. Fabulous! They should be on prescription!

When I've been admitted to hospital with bad flares years ago I saw the other patients going down to physio for wax baths on their hands but I wasn't allowed because my hands were hot. Heat breeds heat so I had to miss them, instead I got a washing up bowl filled with iced water to dip my hands and feet in. It was agony and made me cry but it sure did get the swelling down.

Probably best to get a physician's recommendation then. I'll remember that when my hands are hot. xx
