Thanks for your help
yes..you are supposed to inform them of any changes and they will reassess you x
You can inform the DWP of a change in circumstances. When you received your letter advising you of your PIP award you should also find included is the page informing how to do this. Under the heading "How to report a change" it suggests you call them on the telephone number on the front page of the letter.
Good luck & do tell us how you get on. I'm intending to do the same but have a little more evidence to collate before I can.
Thank you both,
Do you know if a new medical assessment would need to be done for these changes.
Yes, if you report a change then they do a complete reassessment. Even if you report a change in just one area (either care or mobility) they will reassess both. You may not get an assessment particularly fast, but if there is an increase then they should backdate it to the date you gave them the new information.
If it's all getting too much, your local Citizens Advice Bureau may well be able to help with the form. Sometimes it's nice just to have that support.
2plus2, I did a little more searching this morning & have found this on yourable. Perhaps it will help you as well. Note the last but one response on the page particularly, it's posted by a very knowledgeable & reliable member youreable.com/forums/showth...
Thank you, that's very interesting. Mine is also to do with mobility. I don't want to risk losing my original award if the assessor makes a different decision.
It's a shame that we are put in this position of fearing losing what we are already entitled to.
Thank you again for the link
You're welcome. I had an interest as I'm in the same position, awarded care at enhanced & some points but not enough for low rate mobility as my foot problems aren't documented anywhere because my Rheumy has dismissed them until recently. Now I've been referred to Podietry the full extent of my problems is now more than apparent but do I risk losing what I've already been awarded. It's a problem isn't it?
Instinctively I would say that if they want any changes in your condition reported ASAP, then they need to understand this means improved AND deteriorated circumstances and should up your score accordingly while you confidently await a more realistic payment.
Being more jaded as years of battling with the DWP, something tells me you may hit problems - problems that wouldn’t occur if you were reporting increased fitness and thought you were being paid too much.
You could ask your consultant for a suitable letter (for a suitable fee) to back up your claim, or ask to see your medical records and whip out anything you think might help to photocopy and include. Go to the assessment with someone there to “help you”. If possible go in a wheelchair. And if you do get turned down because you were “seen to zip up your handbag” as happened to me, then appeal because a vast number of the initial challengers had there decisions overturned in their favour. It’s something over 60% but I don’t remember exactly. Both my earlier system and new PIP claim did exactly that.
Good luck and let us know how it went!
