help required - carpal tunnel

hi I’m experiencing bad carpal tunnel symptoms.

I had a huge 12 hour surgery on my tummy at the end of September and have a high output ileostomy, which has resulted in me having to have Iv magnesium . I’ve been having lots of fluid in hospital admissions too. I had mild symptoms looking back. I’m currently waiting for an appointment at hospital after visiting my gp. My gastroenterologist thinks the extra fluids may be aggravating this.

im looking for help to try and relieve my symptoms I have splints at night on both hands. They do help to a certain degree. I cannot have surgery at the moment as I have to have further surgery on tummy . (Im a complex medical case) 😔my symptoms are ….

pins and needles

numbness

Electric shock feelings

Burning feeling

Weakness in wrist

Poor dexterity

Pain going up arm

It’s truly horrendous on top of everything else I’m enduring. If anyone can tell me about their symptoms I feel it would help me and also any advice on trying to relieve my pain .

Many thanks

Carpel tunnel can be mistaken for other things such as problems in your elbows and neck and shoulders. Even if you do have carpel tunnel, if there are also problems with the nerves in your elbow, shoulders and neck, then you may still have problems even if you had the surgery.

Have you seen a specialist physio? I was seeing an NHS physio who kept saying carpel tunnel, not responding, you need an injection. I didn't feel she was right so a friend of mine that had just finished her physio training but hadn't been worn down by the NHS group think yet, did an assessment. She felt my fingers, my hand, my arm, elbow, shoulder, and finally finished on my neck. Her verdict was nothing that they do for my hand and wrist will make any difference if they didn't sort out my neck first.

I went to an osteopath who sorted out my neck and my hand and wrist got better!

Have you had any nerve conduction tests to decide what is causing your symptoms?

If you haven,t had any tests, do ask about them, because CT can be treated with a local anaesthetic very swiftly these days.

I had it done last year. ..& my symptoms …similar to yours…are much easier now.

Many thanks …. I am currently waiting for an appointment. I cannot have surgery at the moment as am nearing a further major surgery on my abdomen . But if it carries on afterwards I will do . Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I wish you well.
