Just had my UTI test results....

...and no further action required! YIPEE! Enbrel's out of the fridge warming up for me to inject. :) Not a moment too soon either! All of my previous UTIs have taken 2 courses of antibiotics to kill the bugs, but thankfully this one did the trick with the first course of an antibiotic I haven't had before...long may it rule! :)

Thanks to all for the advice and kind words on my previous post about having to stop my meds. :)

Great! I bet that's a heck of a relief. :)

Sure is, things are starting to get decidedly iffy with my joints so hope the enbrel kicks in soon like it has previously.

How is H doing?

Ooo me too, not good being off RD meds for too long is it?

My h is extremely well thanks. He had his stitches out yesterday & came shopping with me today, just Aldi so not too far to walk. That said he can walk without getting breathless, stairs included which he still can't quite believe. His leg is sore but that's hardly surprising given the length of the scar but is getting better the more he uses it. Getting fed up washing his blinking compression stockings though & what a faff to get the damn things on, my fingers aren't good a gripping & he's not to do it as it pulls on his chest so it's a laugh a minute each morning! :D

You can get compression stockings from House of Bath that zip up at the sides. They would be so much easier to get on and off.

Thanks for that bencar. I didn't know there were such things so had a look & they do look good but unfortunately only come up to the knee & my h's are as long as stay-ups, a full leg stocking with a grippy top. I'll have a rootle about though & see if anyone does full length ones with side zip. The two pairs he was given cost to the NHS is just short of £55 a pair so think if I do find some I may be in for a shock!

I am really concerned about taking embrel I'm worried about side effects and about getting infections to the point where I dint think I would go out the door or go on holiday. I'm at the moment on just 20mg Arava because most of the DMARDS I've tried have caused terrible side effects now my Rheumatologist has asked me to consider emberel.

Last year I was on a trial for a new medication which is a biological

Hiya June, sorry to hear that DMARDs are not agreeing with you. I'm on mtx as well as enbrel. I know exactly how you feel about starting enbrel. I too found it very difficult deciding if I should start taking it or not. In fact, after I qualified for enbrel and had notification that I could expect my first delivery in a fortnights time, I got cold feet and cancelled the whole thing there and then. Some weeks later I had a change of mind and asked rheumy if I could start taking enbrel, which they ok'd just fine. I felt pretty bad about it though as they had to redo all the paper work.

Enbrel's doing a great job for me, significant improvement in my RA just 3 days after my very first injection, and haven't noticed any side effects to date. That said, I still have my doubts about taking it. If it wasn't for a chronic health condition that makes me prone to UTIs, then I'd be more relaxed taking enbrel , and don't think I'd worry too much about picking up an infection from somewhere or other. Only you can decide in the end though.

Good luck

Thankyou for your help I had 2 uti after the BIP infusion but none since last Sept. I know this might sounds silly but I'm petrified of vomiting this is what happened with the MTX and after 3 weeks I was taken off it to continue on Arava 20mgs a day all the others seem go either do nothing or make me sick. I've till May to Think about it how long does the process take to be accepted for it.

Can't remember exactly but think it was around 4 weeks after I qualified. I believe it can vary though. Sounds as if you've already qualified?

We all react differently to different meds.. I've been on mtx for around 10 years, and with the exception of the odd mouth ulcer, have had no side effects of note. Hopefully others will chime in with their enbrel experiences for you to consider, if not start a new thread. You can then discuss things further with your rheumatologist, weigh up the pros & cons and come to an informed decision.

Brilliant news!
