Hi after severe coccyx pain, leg pain, back and general aching and fatigue, sciatica, insomnia, itching skin and other symptoms. My doctor finally sent me for bloods came back low B12 and Folate but learning other things could be low but in range? Should I see what the Folate tabs and B12 injections do?

Check if Vitamin D is low within range ?

Ask for a printout of all your bloods done and their ranges if you haven't already done so.

Being low in range or in the grey areas of some bloods can mean you won't get acknowledged, yet could still have many symptoms.

My low in range vitamin B12 and Feritin (stored iron) were both in grey areas, I now supplement both.

Hi l now have a print out but can't see vitamin D on it? Could it show up differently? It does say my calcium is low too

Vitamin D tests usually take longer to come back, at our surgery as they are done separately. Vitamin D is not good to take if your calcium is very high, but you say yours is low, myself I would be looking into taking some vitamin D3

vitamindcouncil for safe up to date doses, The old vitamin doses were worked out back in the 1930's apparently, (I take 5000iu daily this keeps all my pains away especially my tailbone (Coccyx) pain away. 1000iu my Dr. prescribed was too weak a dose. 85% of us here in Uk are either low or deficient in vitamin D.

Also consider eating some calcium rich foods if you say your calcium is low. All suggestions, but do Google it all yourself to be sure.

Were any Thyroid bloods done ? TSH, FT4, FT3, iron, ferritin, you said low B12 was done, what was the result and range of them all ?

(Not saying you have this jonan71,)

Fatigue, insomnia and general aching can be signs of Low/Deficient B12 or Low Thyroid, B12 and Low thyroid (Hypothyroidism and B12 Deficiency can mimic each other or you can have both.)

There are grey areas in both Hypothyroidism and B12D which are not acknowledged, so patients are having to sort themselves out. I read from patients like this daily on HU. Too many patients are being overlooked and left ill.

A good idea would be to post your bloods up onto Thyroid Uk, (on here Health Unlocked,) like many do daily for other clever members to help them. It is quite easy to learn how to read your own bloods.

Thank you so much for your time. My calcium is 2.10!

Says plasma TSH 1.43mu/L

Were FT4/3 bloods done ? if so they need to be at least over half way in range, better in the top quarter. Many Doctors rely solely on the TSH (Thyroid stimulating Hormone,) which does not give a full thyroid picture or to help rult it out.

Do consider posting up your printout on the HU forum sites that I suggested, as they can spot a problem a mile off in the grey areas that often get neglected.

Did they also screen you for coeliac disease? They should do, if you are low in those things, as malabsorption problems are one of the things that happens with undiagnosed coeliac. I know I had persistently low iron, B12, folate, etc for years and kept getting supplements, but nothing lasted long until I was finally diagnosed.

Jonan, do you have a RD diagnosis? You haven't told us much about yourself.

Rheumatic Disease. Do you have rheumatoid arthritis, or psoriatic or any other type? What treatments are you on? It's hard to make suggestions when we know so little about you.

Hi l have just been told my B12 and Folate is low B12 150? I have had problems with what I think is my coccyx where there is pain when I sit on hard chairs and have to sit on my bum cheeks causing numb legs and severe sciatic pain down one leg. My right leg has caused problems for about a year now including my foot , my leg and foot are bigger than my left one and I have pain in my egs and feet especially after being in bed all night. I feel about 90 when I get up until I move around. I don't sleep wake up to turn over lots and don't feel I've slept. Reading posts on here I have itching legs/skin, eyes deteriorating, black floaters, always feel shattered and wake up thinking someone has knocked on door or shouted. Doctor has said all my pains should improve and my coccyx and won't send me for an xray yet. I am having a 2 week loading dose then 1 a month for 3 months then a blood test. I am told I will feel amazing by the pharmacist. Will the doc stop it when they are normal? Or will it slowly decrease again and symptoms return?

B12 of 150 is extremely low Jonan71.

Suggestion only, - get yourself up on both the PAS/ Pernicious Anemia site (for B12 deficiency)

and also Thyroid UK too and do some post ups for others to help you forward, (both forums are on Health Unlocked)
