Attended my first NRASgroup last night on diet and RA. The talk was given by Hazel Morgan who has controlled her Ankolysing Spondylitis with diet alone and a friend of her managed to come completely off MTX following this diet.
I found it interesting and will certainly be incorporating some of the ideas presented and eliminating certain food groups such as gluten whilst still taking my meds as prescribed by my consultant.
Thank you Hazel and Salisbury NRAS!

I'm looking at diet too after someone told me about an American scientist called Sarah Ballantyne who researched diet and autoimmune conditions to help her own AI disease. She called it the Paleo diet and has a website Paleo mom. ( she's American). My mum is buying me her book for Xmas and I'm going to start the Paleo approach in January.
Brilliant kiki! Thanks for that information. It was a long day for me yesterday so haven't had much time to fully digest everything that was suggested but the Paleo Diet was stated as the way to go. Eliminate gluten and cows milk, processed foods, refined sugars and foodstuffs from the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines). Only use coconut oil, olive oil, butter and sesame oil (not roasted sesame oil). It will be interesting to know how you get on.
Well I'm definitely going to do it. I'm already gluten free as my son is gluten free and I am intolerant to wheat so that makes it a bit easier. Not sure what it will be like to not have potatoes and tomatoes I eat them everyday. But it will be worth it I hope.
