Far infrared for pain relief.

Hi,

I am looking at getting a far infrared mat for general pain relief and am wondering if anyone has already tried this and could give some feedback on how it went for them. Also has anyone out there tried taking slippery elm before taking their methotrexate in order to minimalist the gastric upset and would you please share how it went?

Thanks Ali

I'm taking slippery elm to help w the constipation caused by mtx and plaquinel. It seems to help. I take one capsule daily.

Thanks for that info... It's good to know others have eased side effects without adding yet more meds to the essential RA ones.

Hi MarshaM (and anyone else running in)

I hope your in the pink!!!

It is the day after starting my methotrexate (10mg) and all seems well... Phew!!!

I took the med at 5:30pmish after having a pot of porridge to which I had added some freshly chopped ginger root and half a tea spoon of slippery elm. I left a 15-20 minute gap between eating and taking the meds with a double strength peppermint tea which had been left to cool. I had some mild dihreah (Oh Gad I'm going to have to learn to spell that word if I am going to be taken serious in this RA world!) this morning and a possible hint of nausea .... I know it's early days and a low dose but successes have to be seen and recognised for what they are if I/we RAs are to do more than 'survive' this disease and it's necessary treatment!!!

I have set my self a daily herbal support routine of 1each of garlic, turmeric and ginger capsules morning and night. Plus a joint ace in the morning and a multi vitamin which also has ginseng in it (but that not on the morning after my meds as it has folic acid in it... Not much but enough to have me err on the side of caution).

Thanks for listening and being out there Ali
