The injections take between 1 and 3 days to work on most people, and can last up to 6 weeks or so. But really NOT a good idea to take oral steroids at the same time! Especially if you don't know what dose you were given by injection as this can vary so you might have been given a big dose already.

It's not a good idea to self medicate, even with meds you've been prescribed. As helix says the injection could take a few days to work but if you're still not feeling any benefit after three days I'd seek your GP's or Rheumy team's advice.
Agree on both things - 1-3 days to work, and definitely DON'T take extra steroids, ever, without the direct say-so of your doctor and clear instructions from them on how many to take and when.
Thanks for your advice
I definitely wouldn't do that. Even when not as a 'chaser' to injections, the tablets have stronger side effects, so it could be entirely counter-productive. Best to assume that you have been prescribed the optimal dose in injection form for your condition.
Hi Debbie,
Steroid injections can vary from person to person and injection to injection, they can take a few days to work or may start working more quickly. Sadly some people may not get as much benefit from the injection as they hoped. I do hope yours starts working for you soon.
As far as taking steroid tablets as well as your injection, this is a medical question and not something we can answer for you so as the others have suggested it is a question you need to be asking your GP or rheumatology team.
