Anyone else getting unexplained bruising?

Evening all, anyone else getting the above? It's only recently I find the odd bruise on my leg. I'm on methotrexate. Not sure if it's to do with that xx

Yes, I get bruising & inject 15mg MTX weekly. I must say though that I was prone to bruising easily before starting it. I use arnica gel on them & find they go a little quicker, though my GP poo poo's it as she's a "drugs & drugs alone" doctor but did say it won't do any harm if I must use it! It's the only "natural" thing I use. If you feel it's "extraordinary" bruising & not due to where you inject or don't remember knocking your leg I'd have a word with your Rheumy nurse as you've only just started on MTX just to be on the safe side.

Hi

I am on methotrexate and embrel. I find I get bruises randomly come up about 2 mm wide.

I also find if I lightly knock myself on something, it comes up in a massive bruise.

I used to think it was the steroids that caused it but I don't take them anymore.

Jazie, I just had my first injection of enbrel. I am also on mthx 22.5mg. weekly. I was wondering how this combo of the two are working for you? I am also on my 5th day of my first flare. I got diagnosed last sept. and have done fairly well up until 4 days ago. Any input on your treatment results would help, side effects?

Drg82667,

Hi, I've had RA for 14 years. So I've been on methotrexate for about 12 years and embrel for 9 years. I found it helped me until about a year ago. So now I am considering trying a replacement for embrel.

So it worked for me for a long time and hopefully will for you.

I am a bit reluctant to try anything else as embrel and methotrexate didn't give me any bad side effects.

Your rheumatologist will probably recommend folic acid to stop help prevent side effects of methotrexate.

I know its easier said than done, but when on a flare try to take it easy.

Try and make changes to make life easier for you.

I use a wheelchair to able me to lead a more 'active' life:-)

Good luck:-)

Jazie, thank you for the response. Did you still get flare ups? Do we get flate ups no matter what meds we are on? I was on follic acid. Doc replaced it with Leucovor. I teke 1 pill an hour before methx and 1 pill the day after. Seams to help better than the follic acid. I am also on plaquenil. Seams like all I do is pop pills. I just want the pain to go awy.

I know they just keep appearing, they're not massive. Just on the legs. I'm not on methotrexate at the moment as my blood test come up with problems with the liver so just waiting for the results for the latest one..fingers crossed! I went to see my nurse on Tuesday and she showed me how to inject, so awaiting for the injections to deliver. I'll be on 12.5mg. Also, I've been finding red lumps under my arm they're very sore.. Have you had that? x

I bruise easily as well. I started Enbrel November 2012, I take it along with 17.5mg MTX. I had an enormous bruise on my leg a few weeks after starting Enbrel, it was the sort of bruise where you would think that you would know how you got it. I had no idea what I had done, it took ages to go. I was taking steroids at the time and I know that you can bruise easy while on them.

I noticed a couple of small bruises on my legs a few weeks ago that appeared from nowhere, I came to the conclusion a while ago that because of the drugs I just have to accept that this will happen.

I was one of the lucky one's with Enbrel, I noticed the difference the next day and was told that I was (and still am) in remission at my twelve week appointment. I have had no side effects at all. I realise that I am one of the lucky ones and I am so, so grateful for this.

Paula xx

Hi

Yes thought it was just me as quite accident prone and thought I'd been bruising myself without realizing.

I'm on mtx by injection, hydroxy, sulpha, folic acid and ferrous sulphate and also omeprazole.

Me too re the bruising - also on MTX by injection and have been on the others FridayFever mentions recently too.
