Unexplained bruises

Hi, I have very large bruises on the back of my calf and can't explain how they got there. I'm only taking LEF at the moment as I had to stop MTX due to liver issues. I'm due to see the consultant on Monday to discuss next steps and I'll mention it then but I wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar?

Liver issues, can cause bruising, so it may be related to that

Thanks for reply. They do seem to have faded very slightly today. They're not hot or painful so I'm pretty sure it's not a DVT, but I'll keep an eye out as you say.

To be on the safe side, make sure you do not have any on your back. Calves and back are pressure points when laying down. If there are any seek medical advice asap to rule out any potentially more serious conditions or side effects. Unlikely but essential to check.

Best wishes

Hi, I'm on sulfasalazine, hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate. I had the same thing happen in a similar spot a year ago, and it turned out to be a bruise, I haven't had one since and to this day I still don't understand where it came from, so try not to worry but get it checked out anyway.

I do know both Mtx and Lef can lower the number of platelets which can make you bruise more easily. Always best to show your GP this bruising if you’re unable to see your rheumy to do so. Many of us are also much more easily bruised with thinner skin due to meds and RA in general.

Thanks, it’s faded quite a bit but my hubby took a photo of it at its worst and I’ll show it to rheumatologist on Monday. Definitely something going on because I had my usual blood test yesterday and I’ve got a huge bruise from that too,🤔

Your rheumy wll tell you if your platelets are low and need more monitoring. I hope all gets back to your normal soon.
