Wow Allanah, you've been to a lot of concerts! Last I went to was Elton John in a field somewhere near Brighton! Going to see Robbie Williams in July at Wembley, hope I'll be feeling more up to it by then as right now I can't think of anything worse
Seen him 3 times, well twice actually in the venue & once from outside - couldn't get tickets for his open air at Spanish football stadium so stood in the car park with countless others in the same boat. Equally as good though!
My uncle took me to my first show about 5 yrs old, he was a music journalist for NME and I got backstage and made tea!!! So fell in love with it and have been going ever since! It's my hobby x
World Youth Orchestra when they were staying at Halls in Kingston University in the 80's. It was fabulous to listen and watch all these youngsters playing different, unusual and usual instruments. They did the classics along with others from countries around the world.
Another freebie again whilst living in Kingston Uni was Keith Richards party when he lived on Kingston Hill, it kept us awake all night, music and lights were great. This happened most years until we moved.
Last but not least the very first Glastonbury, names escape but know they were not 'top of the bill' groups, was much much more hippy then with really basic guitars etc. Just as enjoyable though.
Wow, I think I should have lived in London area as a child lol sounds amazing. I got to meet or went to school with people like Midge Ure of Ultravox, Gerry rafferty etc, stones sound much more exciting x
As I suspected a good long list!! Many of my faves there. My most memorable one was the Genesis I Can't Dance tour at Roundhay Park. Lots there with 2 or 3 generations of the same family & was a lovely atmosphere. Only downside was we missed Lisa Stansfield who was on first as traffic on the M62 was hell.
My husband saw Queen at Blackpool just before they released Seven Seas of Rye. They were the support act & he can't remember who it was he went to see, just that they were so good even early on. No-one has ever eclipsed them in his eyes.
Took dad & parents in law to NEC to see Neil Diamond not expecting to enjoy it particularly but what a showman!
My secret crush Michael Ball twice & I'm soooo excited as he's coming to Proms on the Green this summer.
Bryan Ferry - a freebie at the bottom on our road in Spain a couple of years ago. What a voice, wasn't much of a fan in the 70's too obsessed with David Cassidy but appreciate him with adult ears!
Neil Diamond at Glasto was amazing we all fell in ln love with him and also Kenny Rodgers lady year " the gambler"smooth.
Ok will make you jealous now! Was backstage at 15 yrs at David Cassidy watching from stage side with my uncle... Awww memories , he's very tiny you know !
Noooo. My 14 year old self would have been well jealous (maybe not so much now). Mum & dad refused point blank to let me go to his concert in Manchester the year that poor girl died at White City. It took everything in my power to get them to agree to Elton John at Preston 2 years later!! And yes my dad made me very aware of his stature with "that little oik". The poster on my bedroom door was life size!! And Neil Diamond stage production was also brill with lazer images over the audience before they were common.
Oh Crazyjo! Sorry, don't feel left out - get it on your to do list. You don't know what you've missed. Promise it'll make you forget your RA if only for a little while.
Go to Ticketmaster website , there's tons of choice! X
Years ago when a young 20 year old, I went to see Love Affair in Nottingham. But I was used to live bands as my 'then' husband was a singer in a local amater band. Saw them play lots of time.
The only concert I've been to (besides some religious ones) was Elton John/Billy Joel & it was so much fun. I had to drive 4 hours to Iowa to see them. Then, when the songs were still playing in my head on the way home, the radio station played lots of Billy Joel so I got to enjoy it for longer.
Last one I went to see was Paloma Faith at Sherwood Forest (Forestry commission outdoor concert). We were all her merry little men. Loved the venue and it was dry. Just realised I am a bit slow on concerts this year but have booked to see......... Paloma Faith in York in November (she has a new album), brill live. (Just realised my profile pic is from that concert lol)
She has an amazing voice! Such a cute little thing too. They have them here at Dalby forest but it's always glasto weekend, so haven't been yet. Great no 1 concert you picked.
Far far too many to list .. all my Queen gigs (about 15) and Whitesnake (about 50!) and The Cult. Been going to gigs for about forty years now. Probably Queen at Knebworth is one that sticks in the memory. Hoping for a rather large Festival this year depending on the RA situation.
Yup, Queen Connoisseur here! I am sure too he would be dancing around and singing still! Had the great pleasure to meet Queen twice back in the late 70's and he was very shy off stage. He was an amazing musician, performer and person. Played three CDs in succession last Saturday night .. Deep Cuts 1,2 & 3 which are good to have all those more obscure tracks together. I loved them more at their heaviest on the first four albums but some great work throughout .. even on Hot Space!!! x
Some of the best-Bryan Adams, Elton John, Bon jovi
I love going to concerts but sometimes the experience can depend on how good the wheelchair facilities are. When there is a disabled stand its great. But went to see Cliff with with my Mum and we were on the flat ground, so as soon as people stood up I couldn't see a thing!
I also love going to the theatre. Don't be put off by amateur productions, I saw Jesus Christ Superstar at Windsor last week (the show that is!:-):-))
Just had to say that I was in the chorus of the JCS Windsor production last week (there's quite a few of us at NRAS who are theatrical types!) - such a wonderful theatre and pleased you enjoyed it :o)
btw - my favourite concert is either GreenDay at the Emirates or Lady Antebellum (complete extremes but I love rock and country music!)
We will be looking out for future productions at Windsor. My daughter always loved Joseph and his technicolour dream coat, but said that JCS was even better!
I think there's a touring version of Joseph coming to Windsor in November as I'm hoping to go. SWMTC (Slough theatre group) are doing Sister Act next which should be good. 'Jesus' was played by William who sings at our NRAS Christmas Concert each year - you'll have to come along and see him again in December!
Oooo blimey, bit like you Allanah - so many riches to choose from. I shall narrow it down to those that transported me in some way:
Patti Smith - Reading
Pink Floyd - Knebworth
Rolling Stones - Knebworth and Leicester
Graham Parker and the Rumour - UEA Norwich
Peter Frampton - London somewhere
Temper Trap - Norwich twice, once in a tiny converted church by far the better as it felt like a private performance
George Michael - Carrow Road football ground (maybe this should be top - I cried and my friend laughed at me!)
Editors - UEA twice - utterly fantastic
Kings of Leon - Hyde Park
London Grammar - a small venue in Norwich, a converted bank with acoustics that wrapped the sound around you so you felt you were completely bathing in it - truly magical
I'm sure more will spring to mind but those are the stand out ones. Very hard to pick an absolute favourite but if my life depended on it I'd possibly go for the Editors with Patti being a close second.
the concert when take that got back together minus Robbie ( don't laugh , my daughters took me with them as a joke as they used to play the cd s all the time and drive me crazy , they won't take me again as I was dancing and singing so much !! )
paul carrack was amazing
the only west end show I have seen was les mis. and I couldn't speak afterwards it was so awesome
the worst without a doubt was when I took my young daughter to see E17 , just awful
would've loved to have seen queen , and I had tickets once to go to knebworth when led zeppelin were playing and my mean boss wouldn't let me have the weekend off , should've took a sickie ! x
In disability section, and OMG crying laughing , well said!
Hi allanah!
Couldn't let this one pass without making a comment!
My sister and I were meant to see Barry Manilow at Blenheim for her 40th birthday celebration, but the dates clashed with holidays and we couldn't go So we saved up and saw him at The Hilton in L Vegas the following year... fantastic concert! Looking forward to seeing him at Wembley on 13th May! Not that I am a Barry fanatic - but do love his music and the energy he puts into his shows! ( also have a Manilow mug on my desk which my NRAS colleagues poke fun about!)
Hi Sally, there one in every office!!! I know I was that one with the mug too! I never got yo see him on Vegas, but did you know he did Blenheim twice, one in the 80 s and then again on the anniversary of the first one think 25 yrs later. On the second one we were all upset cos he didn't say he was going to do Vegas, he announced it the next day, we thought he'd sold out as he wasn't going yo your here again! But here he is back again.
Hope you enjoy it, he's clumsy awkward and boy does he put on a show! Enjoy x
Oh no confession time to those I haven't told. I love Barry Manilow! I know , I tried counselling and going to see Michael Ball all to no avail. Saw him every tour since 1980. Just off now to get my anti excitement tablets . Apologies to all those offended lol !
Forgot one Leo Sayer back in the day. Not so much now though (he's trying a bit too hard). Waited by the stage door for him & he said hello. Bet he still remembers as I do, not! He's tiny too, what is it with me & small entertainers?! Elkie Brooks was brill too. Still got all my concert brochures in a box somewhere except for Genesis where I bought a tshirt & never wore it!
I met my hubby when I was 16! He lived in Middlesbrough, me Glasgow. ' when I need you' was our song, miles and miles of empty space in between us, the telephone can't take the place of your smile .... Awwww
Oh allanah, that's lovely. Pleased you shared that, you've given me a fuzzy feeling. Ours was Sandy from Grease (the one John Travolta sang in the film). This goes back to my husband working in London (before we were married) & was going to come home once a fortnight but ended up coming home every week because he was so lonely when it got to weekends (not because he was missing me, he said it was because he didn't like the beer there as they don't serve it with a head!!!)
