Thanks to everyone who answered my question about methotrexate. The answers were very useful. I would now like to ask what people do about dental treatments. Cheers. Sue x
DENTIST: Thanks to everyone who answered my question... - NRAS
DENTIST
I just tell the dentist about the drugs, it hasn't affected any treatment I had, I would think though if you needed a dental I you would need to discuss and check with rheumies what you need to do A xx
Hi, I do believe you are ok unless you have to have a tooth out then I think they send you to the dental dept at hospital...x
The dentist has a list of my meds, I have had filling and a tooth out recently, no trouble at all
The dentist will take a full medical record of what drugs you are on.
If you are on biologics then you need to stop them before you have any major dental work....otherwise as far as I know there are no extra precautions required, however I always tell my dentist what I am on....I am on biologics and do tend to make my appts in the middle of injections rather than just before or after
I'm on Humira and Methotrexate. When I had dental work done (extractions), my Dentist contacted my consultant. I had to leave off Humira but carry on with Methotrexate and take antibiotics before and after treatment to combat infection.
(This is to replace my previous unfinished post. Site tends to play up on ITouch).
Thanks for the replies. Its good to able to get advice from people in the same position as myself. Hope your all having a good day. Sue. X
Hi, I was on alendronic acid which really affects dental extractions. If you are on that it does make a difference.
Hi, I've had two teeth out while on 25mg of Mtx with no ill effect. I questioned my dentist carefully about whether it was okay & he was adamant that there was no problem. To be doubly sure you could ask both your dentist and your rheumy.
