Hello

You need to be careful with St Johns Wort. The medications that you are on will possibly contraindicate with it so you will need to discuss with the GP and possibly a Herbalist.

Looking over on other sites St Johns Wort seems to be respected and some medications instruction sheets mention it .

One site that may help you is NHS CHOICES, give it a try

Good luck

Morning Mary, I think that St Johns Wort is one of those herbal remedies you have to be really careful with. I think it has blood thinning qualities and definitely shouldn't be taken with warfarin/heparin etc. not sure about your meds but would definitely not take this one without checking with your medical professionals first.

Hope you get some energy soon, and if you do tell me where you get it from and send some my way please!!! Rxx

Be very careful when taking herbal supps with MTX I was told to ask my consultant x

Hi Mary, I do know that it's not ok with a lot of drugs so I will look it up in my prescribing book today. St John's Wort is an anti-depressant so you certainly can't take it if you're taking anything else that is similar such as Amitriptiline etc. The thing that I take for energy is Feroglobin B6 - by Vitabiotics. It's iron and B vitamins and in a non constipating formula and was the thing that really made a difference when I was anaemic. In the Tonic kind of thing there is Effico again this is B vitamins etc and really helps with increasing your energy and appetite - I was prescribed this after I had septacaemia and just had no energy whatsoever.

Hugs,

Cece x

Thank you all for your replies...I am definitely going to look into it but I forgot I'm on 25mg of amatriptyline at night for pain so what you said Cece it looks like a no but will ask...I am so tired and dripping wet the whole time...I'm sitting at my mums with it running off my face, in my eyes etc is this normal? It's a constant with me...I don't think it's to do with hormones as I'm 59 now(where has all the time gone?) thank you...you are a lovely lot.xx

Hi Truly, I notice that you are on Levothyroxine so maybe your thyroid levels need checking if they haven't been done for a while as low levels cause lack of energy. Mind you, that also causes you to feel cold too which as you are sweating I presume you aren't cold!!! But this too could well be hormonal as hot flushes can continue for many years. I take high doses of Sage to combat hot flushes and I find it works really well. Hope you get sorted out soon. Clemmie

Hi, to be honest with you, I don't know...so many meds means I am better than I was 6 years ago...that was hideous I spent most of the time crying. Having said that I know it is recommended for pain so maybe it has but I also have morphine now and then...NOW that works!!!! I hope you find it helps you honey. Maryx

Definitely check with your doctors as any herbal preparations can interact with other meds, and not always in a good way. Your doctor would also need to make sure they recorded that you were taking it for future reference. If you have a good pharmacist, its worth also asking them, as they sometimes have access to much more in depth drug interaction checkers.
