I took myself off Methotrexate back in February as I suffered from near 6 months with a sore throat & figured it was maybe the MTX lowering my immune system &therefore I was picking up throat virus' s. I went on a long term course of Antibiotics &it seemed to work for a bit but now its back again constantly. Im now considering that it is the Sulfasalazine. Does anyone have/has had a similar complaint?
Thanks for your time.

Hi, I have been on methotrexate for nearly 4 years now, and like you I experienced about 6 months of sore throats, swollen glands which always seemed to be only on one side of my throat! However I persevered and eventually they stopped. I get them rarely now. Good luck and happy new year for 2014
Thanks everyone for your replies. So calflo, you believe it was the MTX causing the problem....I did so at first but as its persisted 10 months after stopping it then this is why I started thinking it was the Sulfa. I had a really bad flare up after the MTX worked its way out of my system & have just got it under control with the help of steroids, but still have this poxy sore throat! Honestly, it is such hard work balancing out meds with side effects as well as one (or three!) Which is effective. I know you all understand this so thanks for your support! X
I've been on sulfasalazine for almost a year and have no sore throat but did have horribly chapped lips and a sloughing of my mouth. The doc put me on 4 mg of frolic acid per day and it all subsided. Good luck to you.
