I went to my Rescue Your Body class yesterday and fear that I may have rescued the wrong one. The one I am wearing today looks like mine (unfortunately) but hurts a good deal more than the one I had yesterday.
My old friend sciatica is particularly active today from neck to ankle leaving my left leg is pretty numb from waist down apart from the searing pain down the back of the leg.
Clearly my dodgy trapped nerves in my lower back have been aggravated so I've raided my extensive and well stocked pill drawer - I expect to have even more brain fog that usual as a result so excuse me if I sound less than perky.
In the meantime, though, do you reckon I should do some stretches to try to loosen it or leave well alone?
Oh dear we try to help our self's not always do we get the write results. Judy for me i find if it hurts i try to move it this normally works for me. What about putting hot or cold on it would this help?xxx
Thanks scouser. It's much better now than when I first tried to get up. I thought I may have to call my son in to help me to the bathroom. Hopefully it will improve a little more now. It's just nice to know there are people out there to hold my hand when it's bad. xxx
The last time I had a seizing up back, I was told that gentle movement is good. Keeping warm is too- so good about the hotwater bottle. I wonder if the class is a usual thing or whether this is your body being shocked? Hope your pain eases up soon
I think I probably over-worked it yesterday Cathie. The nerves have been grumbling a little more recently so I should have been a bit more careful. The class is chair-based mostly and designed for less able so not over taxing usually. I've had a couple of very inactive weeks though so it very possibly is shocked.
And a short walk if you can manage it as this would stipulate blood flow to the nerves and calm it down (so my osteopath tells me), too much rest makes the spasms worse when you do try and do something. I've had a similar issues going on for 4 weeks but coming out of the woods in the last few days and defintiely feeling perkier
I'll give it a go but haven't made it to the shower yet so perhaps a gentle walk around the house.
Rubbing Voltarol gel onto the offending site [nerves/discs] is the only thing that makes any impact when my sciatica is bad. Lumber discs when it's my leg or Cervical discs if my arm[s] are out of action. It's horrid when this is in full flow so you have my sympathy:-} Keeping the area and yourself warm and gentle movement if it's possible. I stand in the shower with the water directed at the offending area for as long as I can manage. Hope it resolves speedily. Cece x

Thanks for the tip Cece. I'm a bit concerned about using volteral gel in conjunction with the diclofenac tablets but it may be worth asking the pharmacist.
Hello Bob here
I contribute to the PAIN CONCERN site here.
One thing so far that I have noticed that no-one seems to talk about TENS etc. I find that very strange.
Does no-one use them or am I missing out here???.
All the best

Hi Bob,
Thank you so much for reminding me about this! I used to use one all the time when I was teaching and having to stand so much more. I found it to be really good but when it broke I never got around to buying a new one because I had a spinal op which gave me some release for a while. Unfortunately the symptoms have returned and they are not able to operate again.
I'm due an epidural in a couple of weeks but in the meantime I'm going to get on to Lloyds online shop and order a tens machine now.

Hello Creaky
Bob here
Get a good one, just seemed strange no- one mentioned them
Hi creaky, I feel much more sore after my hydrotherapy and asked my physio as my lower back gets very sore. She said " no pain no gain" lol
I suspect she is right so I use hot pads and Brufen gel, although I must admit I should talk to my chemist about it too!!
Tens sounds a good idea though, my hubby get neck problems with a tight ligament and I get loads of different pains so maybe it would be a nice little CHRISTMAS pressie ( no! I said the C word) although its still a few weeks away. Will maybe look on ebay if they r not too expensive I might just get it now!
Not so bad today. I think the combination of good advise yesterday helped. Have a look on ebay but also check out Lloyds online. They do some good prices. Haha I used to shop for pretty clothes, now it's all about the gadgets in the catalogues that come with the sunday papers. Some of the things look really useful. Sad, so sad.
Hi Creaky, I agree with Ronnie and Cece..primarily keeping the muscles and nerves in the area warm. I advise my associates in my Arthritis Education and Support class to get in a warm tub or even hotter if you can, or a hot shower, directing the hot water on the complaining area..then instantly wrap yorself in a nice warm snuggy robe and get in bed, or the recliner, and be still. Then after a couple hours, begin some gentle movements while the muscles are still warm., then gradually, like the next day, get back to normal movements.
If you already have sciatica and other spinal problems, I think I would stay away from that sort of thing. It might just be too much.
How about bike ridng, or an exercise bike? I've had 8 spine surgeries, with fusions, including y cervical spine. I wouldn't dare attempt some of those moves I've seen. I also do Tai Chi, mostly from the chair. The instructor is adorable, so that helps.
