A big thank you to all Fran was overwhelmed with the response to my blog and thanks you also, I started taking a mild inflammation RA drug Hydrox-------ine last night to drop the steroids level which I have also done coming down from 60mgs to 20mgs, (checked with the Rheumy nurse alcohol was ok with this, (advanced thinking nothing wrong with that) well today is just the start of a new treatment and will look out for any side affects hate to be out walking and a side affects kicks in then the walk is a sprint, mattcass
The Morning After.: A big thank you to all Fran was... - NRAS
The Morning After.
Hi Mattcass, I have been on Hydroxy for a little over 2 months now and have to say that I haven't noticed any side effects which has really surprised me as usually any drugs make me extremely sick! Even being here in the sun, my skin hasn't been any more sensitive than usual(although I always use a high factor sunscreen anyway). Some days I think that my joints are feeling a bit better but other days they are just as bad so I suppose I just have to wait and see. I really hope that Hydroxy works well for you. Clemmie
Hi clemmie, thank you for your input when I read that the sun can cause a rash and I would have to cover up to avoid this we are away normally 2/3 times a year I just love the sun the hotter the better, now I will just have to sit under a umbrella and drink my Guinness life just gets harder. mattcass
Hope it does you good.. an enjoy your drink x
Brilliant, i am glad at long last they have sorted you out some treatment, wasnt that all you wanted all those months ago, love to you both xx
Hi allanah thank you, they are hoping the mild RA drug is going to slow down the damage that is happening to my lungs any stronger RA ones have been rejected already so here's hoping, mattcass
Hi Mattcass, I've ben on hydroxy for several years and so far none of the nasty side-effects of it's predecessors. I don't know if your rheumy told you but it takes a while to build up and start working so don't be concerned if you don't notice much improvement at first. I think it was about 12 weeks before it fully kicked in for me but when it did it was a huge improvement. I hope you find the same happens for you. The only scary side-effect is the slight risk of retinal damage but I have been assured that this is very very rare. They do,however, recommend you have yearly eye tests so if you are one of the rare cases they pick up any changes before any damage is done. I haven't noticed any increased sensitivity to the sun but, then again, I've more or less forgotten what sunshine looks like Hope you get on well with hydroxy and you soon start feeling the benefits x
