am waiting to see consultant re recent blood tests which confirm high rf after initial sudden flare was reduced by prednisolone,Have no swelling but very achey in fingers, shoulders, elbows and wonder should i just take the edge off with painkillers? This seems such a pathetic question when others on here are struggling with much worse.
painkillers?: am waiting to see consultant re recent... - NRAS
painkillers?
Hi, it's not a pathetic question at all!! It would be best if you could go back to your GP for advice on pain relief as you should be given something to see you through this difficult waiting period. I remember before I had an official diagnosis my GP gave me Naproxen which helped a lot. I use ibuprofen or paracetamol for my pain but since starting methotrexate I rarely need to use pain relief.

can't take ibruprofen as it contra indicates with bp tabs i'm on!!!! hey ho,will take some paracetamol.I'm just trying to keep as active as I can ,
I found that helped too. I used to go swimming as often as possible as the water helped ease my joints x
i havent been to see my rheumatologist yet and i have been taking naproxen and co codamol it has helped so much x
Do try to keep as comfortable as you can with normal pain relief....but you might want to stop a day or so your appointment with the consultant so that he/she can see you at your worst. And do take pictures of swollen joints if these come & go so you have something to show if the day of your appointment all your joints decide to behave. Polly
I was taking Tramadol and paracetamol before i went for my first appointment for my diagnoses to be confirmed my a rheumy, i do still take them now, but not as much, just have a chat with your GP i am sure they will sort something out for you, take Care Xx
Thanks for advice guys, panadol taking the edge off, cold weather getting on me nerves though, heating back on,stuff the expense!!!!
Listen no one should have to suffer cronic pain anymore. If you feel that your not getting the pain relief you need then you TELL your GP, don't ask him! It's your pain not the gp's!!! My own GP is great, he really is but he had to be told about the amount of pain i was in. From then on I have had no bother at all getting what I need. I was put on TRAMADOL 200mg for during the really bad times and 100mg for taking going to bed and for inbetween when needed. It didn't take the pain away but it certinally was a lot more manageable. All the best, Jean.
