How to deal with life when you’ve quit...

So next week marks my first year smoke free since I was 13 (27 years... sssh don’t add that up... you’ll get my age 😂) and it was my first real attempt at quiting so that is my proudest achievement 👍

A friend (who has just quit) asked me how I dealt with life since I quit.. so here’s my tips (what helped me break a 25 a day habit..)

1. Leave your house 5/10 mins later for work (if you were like me and had a smoke outside before you started)

2. Be proud you quit.. when someone offers you one, say “no I’ve quit..” I found a lot of people put the cigarettes down and asked me how I did it/how I’m doing

3. Weight gain is real.. but as my doctor said “you can lose the weight you gain, you can’t gain back the life you will lose with lung cancer/disease” so this year my aim is to lose the weight I’ve put on

4. Smoking can mask underlying health conditions.. always look after your health

5. Do what you need to do to get you through.. not one NRT will work the same for everyone!

6. Personally I didn’t save the money i didn’t spend on cigarettes.. I spent it on me 😂 got my hair done more often, new clothes, cinema with the kids etc.

7. Always ask for help.. a year later and I still have the odd thought about cigarettes, I’d say “i should never have given up...” then two minutes later I’d say to myself.. no I’m actually glad I did because I don’t smell like a ashtray” I don’t need to stand out in the rain” 😂 and €12 a packet... jog on! 😂🤪

That’s all I can think of for the moment.. feel free to add anything on or ask questions or just moan if you need to (totes understand that need..)

Here’s to a new year and new us 😊
