Aww are you still having trouble sleeping hun?

Just a thought, but I said to another quitter just now our local Boots have a very good pharmacist/advice thingy - they spent ages with my dad changing when he takes his tablets (all 14 of them) so if your local one does the same it's got to be worth a shot!!

My body loves me lots Max. I can breathe lol :)

That's good advice Gem, yeah without the nytol I'm back to hardly any sleep.

I think you should get back on it Lindy, I really do.

I know you're phobic about getting addicted to over the counter medicine but you need some kip and the Nytol was doing the trick. It's not fair on you to have to cope with night after night on virtually no sleep. :(

...And well done on Day 52 obviously. :)

Lindy have you ever tried the herb valerian to aid sleep...I swear by it:)

The best one Iv had is peaceful night but H&b have stopped stocking it...but there are several on the market with valerian and passionflower,it's finding the right one.

I'm a bit of a insomniac too:( but they are herbal and safe and Iv took them for yrs in one form or another.

The herbal nytol has valerian in it and passionflower but like Carol said there are others on the market perhaps you need a higher dose, can you not sleep because you are anxious or lots on your mind? If it's not quit related I notice it's been mentioned that you suffered before you quit perhaps it's worth going to GP for a chat they might be able to give you something to get back on track?

You can't carry on like this hun it must be horrendous for you, worth mentioning aswell (not sure if it has been before) but apparently smokers sleep deeper anyway and when we quit we have to get used to sleeping lighter which is a normal sleep pattern and it can take some time.

Some nights I'm not sure if I've slept or not because I keep waking up clock watching and I definitely don't sleep as well as I used to lately xxx

Thanks everyone.

I don't really talk about it but 5 years ago my home went up in fire. I was in bed asleep when it happened. It was a bad fire, I cant say much more than that as I find it upsetting. Even subconsciously at night when I am not aware of thinking about the fire I struggle until I get a night where I just have to collapse, exhausted. I struggle to believe I am safe in bed a lot.

I have tried the docs, online stuff, counselling, sleeping pills and nothing has helped. I can't cope with the meds from the doc, they leave me zombified. Soooo I get on with it as best as I can.

Anyway some good tips here and I will reconsider the nytol I think. Thanks for being so supportive. :)

I have a friend who has similar issues following a severe car accident and with such a traumatic trigger, the root of the problem obviously runs very deep. For her hypnotherapy has provided an answer although it has NOT been a quick fix, and has taken several sessions over perhaps six months. My aunt also suffers from insomnia dating from when she had my cousins (both of them had rather drastic asthma as little ones and were often hospitalised and put in oxygen tents, etc) and she has also gone down the hypnotherapy root and seen real improvements.

It's certainly not for everyone and may not be suitable for you and your situation, but it may be worth looking into - you could get the smoking monster to pay for your sessions. I hope you find a workable solution hon, this has gone on more than long enough and you deserve to reclaim the peace, rest, relaxation and absolute haven that your bed should be. You've no doubt seen me get good and mad at our evil nemesis daring to take control over our lives and now I'm equally as mad at that awful memory stealing your sleep and your peace at night - how dare it continue to exercise such power over you? (I shall now depart before I get too caught up in declaring war on my mental image of that memory which is currently something akin to the fire demon in Moria in LOTR)

Hoping and praying for a solution soon, it's overdue!

Thank you Kat, from the bottom of my heart. You are quite simply amazing :)
