Hi All, I am now approaching my first anniversary of no smoking. 20/7/17.

It's very rare I even think about having a cigarette now although i have to admit there are still circumstances that i obviously associate with smoking and how i enjoyed it at the time that tempt me.

Does that ever go away?

Thankfully i now hate the smell when my colleague at works comes back into the office from her smoke break so I hope that's enough to not give in.

Fingers crossed I stay strong; one day at a time.

Welcome J9_54 and congratulations on almost 1 year quit, well done!

I will be 2 years quit in September and still come across situations / circumstances that I associate with smoking but I am stronger to just shrug it off now. When we overcome a situation for the first time, it is easier to deal with it the next time, for example, last year I couldn't sit outside on a fine summer evening with a beer or wine as used to chain smoke, but this year it is no problem at all. We will probably encounter these curve balls throughout our smoke free lives but will be stronger to deal with them....

Keep in touch with us :)

Yep, my other half plays in a band and had a gig Saturday at a country pub. Was sat there listening, singing, chilling out having a great time with wine in hand and all of a sudden fancied a fag. Smoking was a strong association with drinking and socialising for me. Fingers cross I'll now picture me not smoking at these events.

J9...One year is excellent and job well done...! Downhill from now on...!!

If it ever goes away..???? I still don't know although the temptation is so weak against the wonderfull no smoking life that it is almost not a factor...

That is the reason I do not call myself an ex smoker but a smoker who wishes not to smoke any more...!

I will never smoke again..this new life is much to much nicer....!!!! and after smelling smokers ..who wants to smell like that ???

My oldest son never smoked and his life policy is " If I want to stink I will Sh...t my pants" !!

Well done on nearly a year quit, I will be 2 years in September and still have moments from time to time that I would like a cigarette in certain situations but it passes by very quickly - definitely my mantra is 'not one puff, for today'
