You've probably googled around at the success rates for smoking cessation techniques, and the numbers aren't all that inspiring.
For instance, I quit cold turkey. If you look that up, you'll find various sites talking about a 3-6% success rate. Pretty discouraging, no?
Well, not if you change the sample size. I chose to be a sample of ONE. And I ran the experiment for me, not for anyone else.
And MY success rate is 100%. 100% of me successfully quit smoking cold turkey. I find that pretty inspiring.
So, here's my advice. Ignore the success rate for anonymous others, and focus on the one person you can control, the one person you can impact, the one person who matters most: yourself.
Do that, and no matter what method you're choosing to quit smoking, you can have a success rate of 100% as well.
Now, raise your right hand and repeat after me:
"I will not be discouraged by reported success rates for my method of choice, because I will be a sample of one with a 100% success rate."
Okay. Back to your regularly scheduled crave fighting. You can do it!
I stopped cold turkey for 5 out of 7 weeks over December and January 2013 and then went back to smoking. Then I went to see a smoking cessation counsellor at an extremely depressing health centre, where it was explained to me how it was almost impossible to stop smoking. I had really struggled with emotions when I stopped cold turkey, but I think in part that was the time of year. But, you are right, the statistics are one thing, but we have to live our own lives and go for it and kick it into touch if that's what we want.

Inspiring stuff DGee, and agree 100% with what you've said.
I stopped cold turkey and was initially put off by the success rates. I stopped 3 weeks ago, so you can include me in your sample with a 100% success rate!
