Advice please?

Hi all, I'm a little confused about something.

If I've given up and using NRT then I'm not getting rid of the demon am I? Is it best to suffer for a few days without anything, ie completely cold turkey? Or is it ok to do gradually?

Not sure if I'm making any sense??

Just need a bit of advice really?

Thanks

Well the addiction is more psychological than physical but everyone needs to fly solo eventually. NRT just gives you some breathing space to get used to living life without smoking.

When I quit I tried reducing down lozenges but eventually I settled on using the same amount each day until I quit, the withdrawal was reasonably mild and took a couple of week to get back to feeling the same as I did before I stopped.

For me the cutting down just put me through a period of withdrawal and I saw no reason to do that more than once.

Hope that helps

Thanks Kat, I'm actually using the ecig but nothing else. I'm not using it like a cig though, if I get an urge, then I have a couple of puffs then leave it. I'm probably doing this 5 or 6 times a day at the moment, but that's less than week one? It does take the edge off I think, but just so not sure about still taking in nicotine?? xx

Thanks Nic, this is what I was thinking, going to go through withdrawal twice? I might give it another week, then try just my good old willpower! Thanks again x

Personally I am on NRT patches...will slowly wean down. Worked for me before when I quit for 2 years. But it does concern me, that essentially Im still having the drug.

I do feel though, that if this is the only way I can get rid of the habit completely....then so be it.

Main point is, either way, the aim is to give up smoking.....which we have and hopefully will continue to do so.

Horses for courses etc!

whatever works for you..........you will find it :)

Hi, i turned to the cold turkey method which has worked very well for me, quitting is more like a mind game you MUST BE 100% committed.

I've never mentioned my little story regarding quitting before but its very short and very very effective and here how it goes.............................My best friend in the world passed away last year at the grand old old of 92 (my grandfather). He used to smoke 20 a day ever since he was 12 years old, but kicked the habit when my Nan died in 1986 (of lung cancer she smoked very little though). So he had been smoking for approx 54 years, i asked him one day how he did it and his answer was " i woke up one morning lad and thought to myself i don't want to smoke anymore im bored of it so i didd'nt, i just stopped and there you are that's my last packet there with 18 cigs still in it (park drive).

I asked him did it bother you, his reply was "not at all lad, if you have set you mind to something you can do anything, the only time i felt like one was after a meal but after a couple of weeks that just disappeared, but i must admit in those years there wasn't so much hype or brainwashing telling you how hard it is to stop and to me its not hard there are just to many company's out there making money on telling you to buy this or buy this because if you don't you will fail................a strong mind set lad can achieve anything and that's all you need" " I do hope this helps its done wonders for me :D:D:D:D

Great post!

What a great post Will Power! When I was pregnant with my son I was able to stop using no nrt and it didn't bother me at all must have been because I was in the right mindset, I wouldn't have put my don at risk when he was growing inside me!

Oh how I wish I could get back into that mindset

I am in my 8th day and decided not to use any NRT and I have to say I now feel great, very few urges to smoke now and when I have them I just sip water. To tell you the truth I just feel elated that I now know I will never smoke again. Most of the urges are phsycological now and knowing this has made it much easier to stay quit. You can do this just stick with it. If you have to use NRT then use it.
