OMG this is gonna be BAD!: Just ended my... - No Smoking Day
OMG this is gonna be BAD!
Welcome. The first 3 days are the worst. Are you using anything to help?
it gets better though yes the first three days are abit of a nightmare but once you have got past that you can literally do anything and i found once i got the first week out of the way it got better bit by bit and i was able to cope with situations alot better
stay strong and keep going its soooooooooooooooooo worth it
boo
Hi guy, thx for the support @ Una no i am doing this the hard way
I tried the hard way but I gave in and used patches. Whatever works. Read lots of posts and they'll keep you focused .
Part if why you are finding it hard is because we are all told that its going to be so tough; if you are expecting it to be really, really bad then its going to be.
I'm not saying that its a walk in the park, but if you approach it with the attitude that quitting is very achievable (loads of us have done it) and that its just a case of enduring the 1st few days of withdrawal before things start to get easier, then you'll find its not as tough as it 1st seemed.
Try to think of cravings as symptoms of healing and remember that cravings and withdrawal are not life threatening where as continuing to smoke is. Many people feel that quitting is a sacrifice and depriving yourself of some great pleasure when in reality its more a case staving out an addiction and stopping poisoning yourself; instead look on it as a positive thing, you are regaining your health, wealth and control.
Hang in there and stay strong.
All the best
Nic
Hi HadEnuf
Great name, very apt, well done getting through day one
Totally agree with Nic, I read the Allen Carr books and have to say his arguments are very strong....but I also think not all of us can do it the CT way.
Maybe I'm not as strong as some
I also needed a little help to get me going..many do and many succeed this way. (I know Allen says it is inspite of rather than because of NRT.)
We all believe the biggest part of the quit is in the subconscious but I think for some people his words are easier said that done.
Keep going and see how the next few days unfurl and if you need help consider taking it. If I didn't I am sure I would have started smoking again very early on if I'm honest.
Stay strong a give it time
Take care
Greg

Sounds like the name of an Elf!! Love it
You've had advice from one of the real experts on here (Nic, he is fab) so would just like to add my support. All the very best in your quit.

Hiya, I hope you're hanging in there. My signature says I have quit cold turkey which is true but only because I went to see a hypnotist that lead me to believe it was going to be really hard, unintentionally of course, but it had such a profound effect on my confidence to quit that I slipped continually for 3 weeks.
Then I came on here and read loads of old posts (nic's included - you should give them and others a try) that I realised that I could do it, I have 't looked back since even if I have had rough days I've never really believed I would light up again.
Please stick with it chuck and read as much as you can, if nothing else it helps pass time!
Let us know how you're doing.

Thanks for all the positive feed back I think I am going to be spending alot of time on this forum LOL
I quit with no NRT. The first three are hell but two and three were the worst for me. I do agree with you though; spend a lot of time on forums or other websites. I especially liked reading the timeline benefits of quitting as well as the psychological aspects of addiction. The former helps you remember why you quit and the latter helps you to arm yourself from the impending mind**** you currently are or soon will experience. In addition check out Cracked.com articles on quitting smoking for a good laugh when a craving hits you. The writer John Cheese is great and has a certain anger fueled writing style that I think most people who are quitting can relate to. I'm with you on this roller coaster ride to never never nico-land ... We will make it.
Good luck with your quit, as others have said, being armed with information, reading others tips and having support from here all help massively
The first three days are the hardest days.
The first three weeks are the hardest weeks.
The first three months are the hardest months. (But actually, after the first three weeks, it isn't all that hard.)
It's quite doable. There are THOUSANDS of success stories. Become one of them!
