day 5. experiment failed....

Well I've done good today smoking my ecigs without nicotine. My housemate was smoking around me and it smelt and made me feel a bit weird. I hoped I'd started the cigarette disgust thing ( I sooo want to be there) I asked him for two drags. It did make me feel a bit qyeasy and lightheaded, but not as disgusted as I'd hoped. How long does it take? I still feel like I like the "smoking" not the nicotine... :(

MM, you can't quit and have the occasional puff. It just doesn't work like that. Even if you give up completely, the amount of time it takes before you stop wanting one varies from person to person. All I can say is the wider the time distance between you and your last puff, the easier it will be to brush it out of your mind.

For now, focus on not giving in to taking up smoking again. Not One Puff Ever is the best motto!

Alex.

No, I just hoped that because I hated the smell, that my idea was that I might prove to myself I didn't want one. I just feel like ill keep wanting one. And I want it to stop.

When I quit I knew I could never have even one little puff(NOPE not one puff ever) and nearly 3 years down the quit road I know I still can’t have even one little puff, in the pub the other night it was so warm we sat outside and friends who smoke sat with us, I was not bothered in the least, one such friend asked if I wanted a drag, I said no and he asked if I was scared it would make me want to smoke again, I said dam right I’m scared, some people don’t seem to realise just how addictive tobacco is, not just the nicotine but the whole habit of putting a ciggy to your lips.

Leave the fags alone and you will soon be at a point where you won’t want one.

Good luck and I hope to see you have a long and happy quit.

Hey Monster give yourself a chance of quitting....the sooner you stay away from them for any length of time, the sooner the nicotine disappears from your system, the sooner your body can start to repair itself and the sooner you can start fighting the triggers.....but give yourself a chance. We're all on your side here but you have to help yourself ;)

The thing that lot of people fail to understand, is that people only know what works for them if they try it. Theres no point telling someone that doesnt work, they have to know and believe it for themselves, and im afriad to say that you only get to know that and believe it by these experimental cigs. took me a year to understand how my addiction works, and everyone is different. some people actualy do quit though gradual reduction! but for me that would of been hell, depends on person!

how people even in there 20's still cant see from a point of view different from their own just blows my mind. my nephew whos 11 has got this skill ffs!

Hey Monster, You are doing brilliantly so well done you! Don't forget nicotine is a very powerful drug & it can make you start rationing any reason to have a "couple of drags" so the demon can feed his habit! When I had my slip on my birthday, I was totally devastated the next day, all because I'd had too much to drink & allowed the demon to manipulate me to have a smoke. I got to day 14 & had to go back to day 1, man I was  There is no way I am going back to day 1 now & I don't even think about the white sticks anymore. I try & keep away from social gatherings with too much booze but apart from that, feel fine. You can & will do this, just one day at a time but NO "couple of drags" If you ever feel like this, think about why you wanted to give up in the first place & how you will feel going back to day 1? Keep posting on here & get it all out, it really does help!

One time I gave and was doing really well going cold turkey. I went on a night out and a colleague surprised me by lighting up. She only smoked when out having a drink. I wondered if I could do that too, so begged a cig off her. I only managed half and felt sick. Stupidly, instead of throwing it away, I saved it for later and forgot about it. The next morning, really fancied it, lit up, then had to go to the shops for a pack - major fail.

A lady I used to know had quit 40 years before I met her and she said that when I smoked near her, she still wanted one but knew that one drag would make her start again (I stopped smoking near her).

Sorry for the epic, hope this helps.

All drugs are subtle foes. All an addiction wants is attention. Combine those two statements and I will talk myself into an experimental puff as easy as blinking.

One puff is never enough, count yourself lucky and move on.
