Hi Tracy,I am exactly the same. I have been quit for 6 months now and I go away in September and I have to admit it is on my mind. I have just had a few days away with a smoker and I did not have one but I would have prefered to have been with a non smoker. It is something we just have to do and get on with it. 8 months is a long time and I believe if you do have craves they will be very weak. Let me know how you go on I will be very interested.

Hi Tracy,

My advice would be to try to shake the thoughts as soon as they come into your head. You've been quit for 8 months, which is already a tremendous achievement, and I'm sure you know quite well why you quit in the first place.

It's always quite romantic to see someone enjoying a cigarette by the sea, casually leaning over a balcony as the sun sets in the distance... Just remember that they won't look so great with wrinkled face, strapped to a life-support device in a clinically sterile hospital environment, surrounded by family and friends waiting for them to pass away i 20-30 years from now.

Whenever you think of smoking, take a reality check, as the Americans would say.

Alex.

Just carry on doing what you're doing now and you'll be fine. You've had these thoughts before and got over them.

Thanks for your replies and advice:)

I still have my inhalator thing I think I'll pack it just in case the urge gets too much for me.

I'll let you all know how I get on in 2 weeks;)

My first holiday as a non smoker was actually pretty good - after months of winding myself up about how I wouldn't be able to cope it was scary how easy it was :)

Not sure if you're flying but airports are so much easier to deal with when you're not stressing about when you can have your last/first fag.

You've done a whole 8 months so just carry on doing what you've been doing and you'll be fine :D

How true! As a smoker, I had always refused to travel outside of Europe because I couldn't face the flight. This year, I went to Barbados, which was fab! Paid for it out of the money that would have gone up in smoke, too! Win win..... :)

I went through the 3 month milestone on holiday last month. It was a breeze - much easier on holiday than back at home with the normal day to day niggles.

I obviously don't know your history, quit method, how long you've been nicotine free etc. But I'd strongly recommend against re-introducing nicotine - you risk re-awakening the monster - first law of addiction.

Have confidence in yourself that, in your 8th month, you can get through any sensation of wanting a ciggie - remembering that it is nothing more than a false memory. And enjoy your smoke free holiday.
