Getting at bit boring....

Hi Guys,

I think that this may be my first 'whinge' ..... :(

I'm fast approaching the 2 week marker, my quit stamina is still going strong, so don't worry I won't be smoking anytime soon...

But .... It's hard to explain... I getting a bit bored with this quitting business

I know that sounds a bit mad but it's like the novelty factor is wearing off ?

The first few days / week, you put loads of effort and fight into 'not smoking' each day feels like a massive triumph.... but then it gets a bit boring !

I think I've had things easy to be honest so far..... no major craves etc.. and I don't 'want to smoke' but I.m feeling a bit ...So what, you've quit smoking do you want a blue peter badge ?

Am I nuts, or does anyone else get what I mean ?

Hi Dragon,

I understand what you mean, I felt the same way a few weeks ago but then I realised that the feeling is actually a positive thing, I mean surely the goal is to stop thinking about smoking and find it easier and easier as time goes on. I for one will happily be bored of quitting rather than actually being a smoker again.

My only advice is do not get complacent, you still have to stay strong because there will still be some bumpy times ahead.

You are doing great so keep it up.

:rolleyes:Its not as boring as smoking, but it does get boring. you just need to liven it up but dont ak me how im the most boring person on the planet but not as boring as what i was when i was chainsmoking 30 roll ups a day.iv got a million things i could be doing but im obsessed with not smoking and cant be bothered but if i want my dinner later im going to have to wash the boring pots. i might have a practise on my guitar if i can get off this inertia and my ever growing backside is this why people take drugs?

Hi Jay

Sounds like Champix-induced boredom to me! And unless you would prefer something a bit more raw and intense, then I would say hats off to those nice drug companies! I spent my first six weeks in a bit of a fog, but it was preferable to climbing the walls, to be honest.

Keep going - you are doing really well. And if life gets too dull, you could always take up an extreme sport or something? :)

Dragon, it could very well be the drug talking... think about it, why do people have so many relapses, I for once had thousands... let me elaborate: we overcome a big challenge and when it, eventually, becomes easy we no longer feel motivated, hence we may experience perception of boredom. we however remain curious towards cigarettes (our brain never forgets the extra pleasure)and although we know it was so hard to quit last time, we are not afraid of having just another one because we assume that having overcome it once in the past, one will do no harm! but we don't realize that the next time it has the potential to be a lot harder. in fact, we are training ourselves in the quit then start then quit..(then probably die) behavior. but when we do get into this cycle it costs us time, health, money and the confidence which we think we have gained easily (this is actually erroneous) is beginning to evade us... now we are running a risk of giving up on quitting and getting hooked for life. this also happens due to the fact that the more you use the drug the more you get addicted to it.

i will not assume ever again that if i start again, i will be able to quit no probs... and if the present quitting ever becomes as easy as to think that i'm bored with it. only now i realise it's a fight for the rest of my life, if i assume boredom i'll give in again for sure. perhaps this is only pertaining to me, but i think there is some truth there...:)

Its good to have a whinge.

I wanted to stop smoking because my health was being affected (wheeziness, breathlessness when walking uphill, coughing badly) Now on day 15 those symptoms have reduced or gone (amazingly), and I feel my next challenge is to get fit.

Perhaps you need the "next" thing?

If you can give up smoking, you can do anything!

I know what you mean. I felt so flat at the beginning of Week 3. Kind of, 'well the nicotine is outta my system, so now what??' type feeling. Bit like no-man's land cos a month still seemed miles away. Kind of felt like I wanted a 'holiday' from quitting. But the good news is it all picks up again in Week 4:D The bad news is you might go funny like me and start singing all over the place LOL:eek: So stock up on ear-plugs for family, friends and neighbours;) Think you are bang on target in the quit, maybe you went into the second of the 'terrible three's' a bit early?? Just keep your sense of humour and you will be fine;)

Zoe

P.S. Yes I DO want a Blue Peter badge - I deserve one after all this malarky, but it is so worth it.

Hello Dragon and well done so far ........

I felt a bit like you with the boredom of not smoking although I am a few weeks further down the line. I also feel that I've had it relatively easy compared to some of the more challenging experiences other quitters have suffered etc.

I am not complaining either but to spur me on I have taken up running, well more of a mixture of a jog and power walking at the moment but I am building it up and am really enjoying it .... it gets me out for an hour 3 nights a week and it's not only helping me to get fit but last week I lost 2lbs in weight and it's also free unlike the gym. My body thinks it belongs to someone else these days as it's not been so well looked after since I quit smoking. :-)

I just hope I don't get addicted to the adrenalin otherwise I shall be fighting another addiction in the not too distant future   ;):D

Good luck with whatever you choose to do to combat the boredom.
