Nikotine is a very addictive drug, and even if you only smoked for a year or six months quitting can be very hard. I remember when I started smoking, I couldn't believe I was actually becomming a smoker, it was so unlike me, and I would have liked to quit, but I found I couldn't. That's why it took me 5 years of smoking to actually make a serious attempt (I'm on day 6 now). One thing is for sure though, the earlier you quit the easier it is to maintain your quit in the long run, because your brain won't have as many associated memories connected to smoking as in a long-term smoker.
It's a good idea to come here and write about your quit, I find it really helps and motivates me. Basically use whatever you can to aid you in quitting, and especially for the first week your quit should be your top priority, remember it is the most important decision you will ever make in your life.
I'd also suggest finding as much info on quitting as you can, it really helps to be prepared for what is to come every day.

Very True.....one of the factors I long for smoking is the memories of smoking
me standing in my balcony having a fag with coffee:rolleyes:
me smoking in the smoking zone of my office along my mates..
Good luck Aniket. Even after a year, this won't always be easy. This site helps, though, because of the support from other people who understand what you are going through. I guess it's easy to remember the good smoking images, but in truth, it was often not like that at all. A few weeks ago, I saw a guy in the wind and the rain, trying to keep his fag alight, and looking very miserable indeed! Try to focus on the inconvenient and less pleasurable ones instead, and be grateful that you no longer have to accommodate them!

Not only that. What is important to realize is also that the choice isn't whether you'd like "1 wonderfull smoke on the balchony". We simply have to accept that we can't control our addiction like that. It's either the full on package of smoking, or not smoking at all.
I'm not gonna lie to myself, of course there are situations I wish I could smoke, and there will be those situations even years from now, but not smoking is definately the better option.
Even just now on day 6 I feel more energetic and happy.
The 'good' memories fade pretty quickly so don't worry about them too much. I had exactly the same thing about being in the garden or the journey to work. I've managed to break both and those memories seemed to fade after only 4 or 5 days. I think the key for me however was making sure I put myself in what I knew would be difficult positions straight away, and as frequently as possible.
Thanks every one for ur support...i am into day 2 and i think i can make it to day 3...in the morning i was feeling worse but some how i controlled...just few hours till i go to bed..
I knew you could do it. If day 3 is difficult just remind yourself how well you managed to get through day 2 and then hopefully day 4 will be so much easier.
