I have been a heavy enough smoker for almost 20 years.
Earlier this year I had a chest scan and it was amazingly clean.
I must confess, the amount I have smoked over the years its an absolute miracle I have got away with things so far.
I have tried everything to stop - and could never do it - could go weeks of having 1 a day in miserable attempts to stop but could never do that magical 24 hours clean.
Well I finally tried champix. (Not free in Ireland so the cost here is absolutely prohibative).
I know its easy to say "if the work it saves you money " but you have to understand, the thought of a couple hundred euro on something I was sure wouldnt work was a bit much.
Anyway - I'm on day 10 of the tablets - and set my quit date for day 14 who doesn't As long as possible eh?
By day 8 though, I really didnt want to smoke and moved my quit date early.
Here I am now into my second day without nicotine and am delighted
Wish everyone luck and will see you all through our journey together
regards
Dean

Welcome to boards and congratulations on the start of your quit
There are a few people here that have quit using the tablets, they really do work! and as you can see, only after 8 days they have "kicked in" you already.
Feel free to ask questions here Dean, everyone is in the same boat as you in trying to KICK the habbit.
Have a read through peoples posts and also look at some peoples signatures as some have links to other useful information.
Welcome Dean - what a great decision you have made! I'm on Champix too and also quit earlier than planned, just thought what is the point of buying more. Now on Day 15 of being smokefree, into my third week already. I haven't looked back, OK a few bad days but that is all in my head really, mostly thanks to all the positive people on this site.
READ READ READ was some of the good advice I got and be positive. Who needs the poison we breathed into ourselves?
hi Dean and welcome to this brill forum its certainly been a great help to me as everyone who is on here is in the same boat so knows what your going through so have loads of helpful tips and advise to help with the cravings i cant believe its going to be 4 weeks for me tomorrow since i stopped:)
im using patches and nicoratte atm but slowly cutting down with the nicoratte as i dont want to get too relient on that
just remember to take one craving at a time as it will pass
Bloody good aren't they? This is my most successful quit in 15 years! Champix rules In the last week I've only had two 'wobbly' days, but still never enough to give in.
After many previous attempts using just about every other 'way to stop smoking' I was prescribed Champix this time last year and here I am a year later only a week or so away from my first whole year of being a non-smoker.
So, hang in there man, there will be good and bad days (just like life in general really..), and here's hoping Champix will do for you what it has done for me and many others and help you quit smoking, for good!
Morning Dean
I trust everything is still going well?? Keep up the good work!!

Hi Dean.
I am very glad that you finaly decided to give up smoking after 20 years of smoking. It's a big desicion. And that you got away with a clean chest xray as well. Lucky you. Lot of ppl suffer with heavy coughing because of the smoking. It seems some ppl have the will power to stop like you. Good for you and we all can look up to you. Keep it up mate.
